Job Title & Location Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Paterson, NJ – Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Department Microbiology Pay $32.00–$50.73 per hour. Shift differential may be 10% for second shift and 15% for third shift. Salary offers based on skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Eligible for annual performance bonus. Responsibilities Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgement in specialties in which they are qualified. Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot instruments/procedures. Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement and special projects. Perform and report assigned analytical tests per SOPs, meeting quality control requirements. Support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record‑keeping. Adhere to analytical schedules to meet turnaround time for results, including STATs. Ensure reagents/test kits have correct dates and handle them appropriately. Document QC analysis and make quality‑control decisions. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems related to test procedures. Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations. Enter test results into Laboratory Information System for physician review. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as required. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to all CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment and adhere to engineering or work‑practice controls. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections. Assume lead responsibilities in absence of a Supervisor, if qualified and delegated. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Work Experience One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience, most current year in the present department. Physical And Mental Requirements Ability to lift and carry objects: 1–10 pounds frequently; 11–25 pounds occasionally; 36–50 pounds seldom; >50 pounds requires assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments demanding manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology; or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or qualified as Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433. Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry (Preferred). Licenses and Certifications ASCP Certification (Preferred).
