1 Attachments Salary Range: $37.00 To $39.00 Hourly Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance - Epilepsy Foundation Michigan (Affiliate) Position Objective The Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance is responsible for the accurate, timely, and effective management of the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan’s day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions. This position maintains the integrity of the general ledger, supports budgeting and audit activities, manages grant and internal financial reporting, and partners with the President and leadership team to provide financial information, analysis, and insights that support sound decision-making and the Foundation’s short- and long-term financial strategy. Principal Duties and Responsibilities General Accounting & Financial Operations Maintain the Foundation’s general ledger accurately and on a timely basis. Manage general accounting functions, including cash receipts, cash disbursements, purchase orders, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, and financial statements. Develop, update, and maintain documentation supporting allocations and journal entries. Perform detailed account analyses for internal management and audit purposes. Maintain appropriate financial documentation and records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards. Monitor internal control procedures and recommend improvements as appropriate. Manage bank deposits, check processing, invoice processing, and related financial workflows. Budgeting, Analysis & Financial Strategy Partner with the President and leadership team to develop the annual organizational budget and supporting documentation for Board approval according to established timelines. Monitor actual financial results against budget and prepare monthly and ad hoc variance analyses, including explanations of significant variances. Present budget variances and financial information to the President, Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors as requested. Prepare financial analyses, projections, and decision-support materials to assist leadership in evaluating programs, initiatives, staffing, grants, and other organizational priorities. Provide financial insights and trend analysis to support strategic planning, financial sustainability, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources. Financial Reporting & Audit Support Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external use on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, as applicable. Prepare supporting schedules, work papers, account analyses, and documentation for the annual audit. Collaborate with the Foundation’s Audit Committee and external auditors throughout the annual audit process and fieldwork. Partner with the President and Foundation team to enhance financial reports, dashboards, and reporting processes. Prepare and submit required external financial reports. Grants, Cash Flow, Investments & Financial Administration Prepare cash flow reports and projections throughout the year as required. Manage grant tracking, contract activity, grant accounting support, and related reporting requirements. Maintain and monitor the Foundation’s investment account and provide reporting updates to the President and Board as requested. Maintain and monitor employee benefit plans and coordinate related financial and administrative activities. Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules and update them based on expenditures. Prepare and submit required lobbying financial reports and other regulatory or external reports. Maintain effective banking relationships and coordinate with financial institutions as needed. Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration Maintain professional and effective communication with Foundation staff, Board members, clients, vendors, contract agencies, financial institutions, auditors, and other external stakeholders. Work with vendors and other parties to resolve discrepancies and financial questions. Present financial results, analyses, and department updates during internal, committee, and Board meetings as scheduled or requested. Handle confidential and sensitive financial and personnel information with professionalism and discretion. Organizational & Team Responsibilities Participate in team efforts to advance the Foundation’s mission, goals, and strategic plan. Collaborate effectively across the organization and promote positive working relationships. Identify financial issues, risks, trends, and opportunities and proactively communicate them to the President and appropriate stakeholders. Support Foundation fundraising events and programs throughout the year as needed, including on-site attendance when required. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Minimum of five years of experience across general accounting functions. Nonprofit accounting experience required. Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word. Knowledge of the Paychex Payroll Platform. Experience handling confidential and sensitive information. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision. CPA certification is not required . Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and clearly communicate key findings. Ability to establish goals and objectives, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple deadlines. Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels, Board members, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to exercise sound judgment and take initiative. Willingness to raise concerns, participate in problem-solving, and share information across the organization. Flexibility, creativity, and a continuous-improvement mindset. Working Conditions This position primarily operates in an office environment. Physical activity, including reaching, bending, lifting, and prolonged periods of standing, may be required when preparing for or participating in Foundation programs and events. The position requires the ability to travel and reliably commute to community presentations, events, and meetings throughout the state.
