Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to lead and manage capital focused primarily on the China equity markets within our Emerging Markets Long/Short Equity Strategy. This individual will have full responsibility for idea generation, portfolio construction, capital allocation, and risk management, with a primary emphasis on identifying investment opportunities across Greater China. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated track record of generating alpha through a repeatable investment process, deep fundamental research, and disciplined portfolio management. This role offers significant autonomy while working collaboratively with senior leadership on portfolio construction, capital allocation, and strategic positioning. Given the nature of the role, native or professional fluency in Mandarin (spoken and written) is required to effectively conduct company diligence, engage with management teams, review local-language research and filings, and develop relationships throughout the region. Key Responsibilities Manage a China-focused long/short equity portfolio with full P&L responsibility. Generate differentiated, high-conviction investment ideas through fundamental company research, industry analysis, and macroeconomic insights. Construct and actively manage a concentrated portfolio with disciplined risk management and capital preservation. Allocate capital dynamically across sectors and individual securities based on attractive risk-adjusted return opportunities. Monitor macroeconomic developments, regulatory changes, monetary policy, geopolitical events, and other factors impacting China's capital markets. Develop detailed financial models, valuation analyses, and investment theses. Perform extensive due diligence through meetings with company management teams, industry experts, economists, government officials, and sell-side research professionals. Review and analyze Mandarin-language filings, research reports, earnings materials, and other primary source documents. Present investment recommendations and portfolio positioning to senior leadership. Continuously evaluate portfolio exposures and performance attribution while proactively managing risk. Mentor and oversee analysts supporting the strategy. Contribute to collaborative investment discussions across the platform and identify opportunities that may benefit other investment teams. Qualifications 7–15+ years of relevant buy-side investment experience, preferably managing or investing in China or Greater China equities within a long/short equity strategy. Demonstrated track record of successfully managing capital and producing consistent, risk-adjusted investment returns. Deep expertise in fundamental equity research, financial statement analysis, and valuation methodologies. Strong understanding of China's economic landscape, regulatory environment, and capital markets. Exceptional financial modeling and analytical capabilities. Professional or native fluency in Mandarin (spoken and written) is required. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial investment environment. Bachelor's degree required; MBA, CFA, or other advanced degree or professional designation is preferred.
