Lead Medical Support Assistant

The Lead Medical Support Assistant is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage, evaluating training records, conducting appointment audits, and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. The Lead assists the department with complex and non-standard procedures, including clinical flow processes. The Lead MSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary care delivery model and performs customer service and administrative duties for proper and timely treatment of Veterans care. Must demonstrate substantial skill in planning, organizing, problem solving, and decision-making. The incumbent must demonstrate a high level of oral and written communication skills. The Lead MSA understands and appropriately utilizes the administrative support packages, including but not limited to; Consult Tracking Manager (CTM), Computerized Veteran Record System (CPRS), REFDOCS, Release of Information (ROI), VA Online Scheduling (VAOS), Vista, Provider Profile Management System (PPMS), Health Share Referral Manager (HSRM), and other programs. All appointments will be made with the Veteran's input, either in person, over the phone, or through written communication. Assignments at this level include but are not limited to:

• Distributes and balancing the workload among employees, in accordance with established work flow or job specialization
• Assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload
• Monitors the status and progress of work, and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities
• Obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise
• Provides on the job training for employees in accordance with established procedures and practices
• Ensures accurate and timely scheduling of appointments
• Provides guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures
• Acts as a liaison among Advanced MSA(AMSA) staff, Veterans, Vendors, and other interdisciplinary staff to resolve day-to-day conflicts.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
