Job Description Job Description Job Title: Staff Accountant (CPA) Location: Madison, WI Employment Type: Full-Time (Direct Hire) Compensation : $65,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | Full-Time Work Environment: On-site About the Opportunity We\'re partnering with a well-established public accounting firm in the Madison area to hire an experienced Staff Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who holds a CPA license or is CPA-eligible and enjoys working with a diverse client base while gaining exposure to tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and financial statement engagements. The ideal candidate will have 3–4+ years of public accounting experience, strong tax knowledge, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review individual, business, trust, and nonprofit tax returns Prepare tax workpapers, trial balances, depreciation schedules, and supporting documentation Perform bookkeeping, payroll, and general accounting services for clients Assist with financial statement preparation, compilations, and review engagements Prepare payroll tax and sales tax filings Maintain accurate financial records and accounting documentation Communicate with clients regarding accounting and tax-related matters Ensure compliance with tax deadlines and regulatory requirements Qualifications Required: CPA license or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam 3–4+ years of public accounting experience Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting Strong knowledge of accounting principles and tax regulations Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills Preferred: Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software Experience working with a variety of business and individual clients Additional Expectations Ability to work extended hours during peak busy season (January through April), including designated Saturdays Willingness to support a collaborative, team-oriented environment and assist with additional responsibilities as needed Why You\'ll Love This Role Competitive salary of $65,000–$80,000 based on experience Excellent benefits package Direct hire opportunity with long-term career growth Diverse client work across tax, accounting, and advisory services Collaborative and supportive team environment Opportunity to work with an established and respected public accounting firm #J-18808-Ljbffr Drake & Company
