Essential duties, functions, and responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes, and manages the occupational therapy program including such responsibilities as occupational therapy policies and procedures, quality assurance (CQI), risk management and infection control, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) preparation (ongoing), strategic planning, monthly and annual reports, attendance at required meetings, patient and staff education, supervision of subordinate personnel, students and volunteers.
• Develops and directs a comprehensive occupational therapy program that addresses care and treatment of all diagnoses and all age levels from birth through advanced age to death.
• Independently evaluate the functional ability of patients, through the administration, interpretation of standardized tests, clinical observation, and patient/family interview.
• Create individualized treatment and educational plans and provides patient/family counseling and training.
• Provides occupational therapy consultation, evaluation, and treatment to in and out patients of all diagnoses and all age levels referred to OT. Establishes and carries out treatment plans toward short and long term goals, modifies and/or discontinues treatment as appropriate.
• Addresses ergonomic issues that lead to on the job cumulative trauma/repetitive stress injuries, and works with physical therapy and other multidisciplinary team members to prevent injury and promote good health. Intervention includes work site evaluations, work hardening, splinting and bracing, back schools, prevention programs, community, staff, and patient education.
• Serves as a member of a comprehensive rehab team and participates in formulation of rehab objectives, policies, procedures, and CQI and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
• Assists with on-boarding processes including orientation and mentorship of students and new employees.
• Attends appropriate clinics, management meetings and case conferences to discuss patient status.
• Maintains current knowledge, skills, and abilities appropriate to the occupational therapy profession and health care in general. Maintains professional license. Keeps credentials file current. Shows proof of continuing education including annual CPR renewal.
• Addresses evaluation and treatment of Pediatrics and upper extremity including expanded functional exercise programs, assistive technology to facilitate upper extremity function and activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), orthotic and prosthetic training and management, and enhanced splinting procedures.
• Provides sensory integration, energy conservation, cognitive evaluation and treatment, reality orientation, balance and coordination activities, neuromuscular reeducation, work hardening, and training in ADL and IADL for a variety of neurologically and orthopedically impaired patients of all ages.
• Addresses pain control, restoration of function and meaningful activity, daily living skills, mobility issues, fitness and strength, balance and coordination, cognitive function, any bracing/splinting needs, assistive technology, adaptive equipment, etc. for all other diagnoses and conditions for which rehab services may be indicated.
• Addresses cumulative trauma/repetitive stress/on the job injuries with work site evaluations, ergonomic assessments, exercise programs and work hardening, splinting and bracing as indicated to facilitate continued job function. Participates in regularly scheduled Back Schools.
• Addresses older/mature adults (fifty (50) years and older) with programs of care to include activities/skills of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, gaiting and other mobility issues, reality orientation, balance/coordination activities, cognitive and extremity function, life-long fitness issues.
• Provides evaluation and treatment of pediatric and youth from newborn to age twenty one (21) years to include activities/skills of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, gaiting and other mobility issues, balance/coordination activities, cognitive and extremity function, splinting and bracing needs, seating systems and other adaptive technology, facilitation and neurodevelopment techniques and activities.
• Assists with burn and wound care to include appropriate sterile dressing changes, casting or splinting as indicated, passive to active range of motion (ROM) as indicated, measurement for and fitting of custom garments to prevent hypertrophic scarring.
• Plans, organizes, and supervises programs designed to facilitate age-appropriate cardiovascular function and good fitness, balanced alignment, positive and enjoyable leisure-time physical activity.
• Consult closely with multi-disciplinary team members to create collaborative treatment plans and integrative strategies.
• Provide individual therapy sessions as well as group and/or co-treat with other disciplines as therapeutically appropriate. Common diagnoses include: autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, sensory processing disorder, articulation challenges, ADHD, anxiety, cerebral palsy, down-syndrome, learning disorders; ranging in ages from six (6) months to sixteen (16) years, on average.
• Maintain patient records, documentation, and appropriate billing in accordance with federal and state regulations and company policy to ensure excellent standards of care.
• Contribute to program development.
• Educate patients, families, team members, and caregivers on home programs that complement treatment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory minimum qualifications:

Experience: No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as defined in the education qualifications listed below.

Education:

Certified by National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Active and unrestricted state license as an Occupational Therapist.
