Join us and build your future with a team committed to excellence.About The Job:The Community Relations Superintendent is responsible for leading, developing, and executing a comprehensive community relations strategy in support of a surface silver mining operation in Pershing County, Nevada. This role will build and manage a high-performing community relations team, fostering strong, transparent, and proactive relationships with local stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, tribal entities, community organizations, local government, and residents.The position plays a key leadership role in ensuring the operation maintains its social license to operate through effective engagement, issue resolution, and alignment with environmental stewardship goals.Essential Functions & Responsibilities of the Position:Strategic Leadership & ImplementationDevelop and implement a long-term community relations strategy aligned with site operational goals, permitting requirements, and corporate standards.Identify key community risks and opportunities, and develop mitigation or engagement plans.Establish measurable performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate effectiveness of community engagement efforts.Support permitting and regulatory processes through coordinated stakeholder engagement.Team Development & LeadershipBuild, mentor, and lead a community relations team, including specialists and coordinators.Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations for team members.Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capability in communications, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution.Stakeholder EngagementDevelop and maintain strong relationships with: Local communities and landownersCounty and municipal officialsTribal governments and representativesState and federal agenciesNon-governmental organizations (NGOs)Other key stakeholders as identifiedServe as a primary point of contact for community concerns, ensuring timely and professional responses.Lead public meetings, outreach programs, and community events.Community Programs & InitiativesDesign and manage community investment programs, including sponsorships, donations, and partnerships.Support workforce development initiatives and local hiring efforts.Coordinate educational outreach and site tours to enhance community understanding of mining operations.Communications & ReportingOversee development of communication materials, including newsletters, reports, and public disclosures.Ensure consistent messaging across internal and external communications.Prepare reports summarizing community engagement activities, issues, and resolutions for management review.Issue Management & ComplianceEstablish and maintain the Borealis community grievance mechanism to track and resolve complaints.Ensure compliance with permits, agreements, and company policies related to community relations.Coordinate closely with Environmental, Operations, and Legal teams on sensitive issues.Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner closely with Environmental, Permitting, and Regulatory teams to ensure alignment between community engagement strategies and permitting requirements, environmental commitments, and compliance obligations. Coordinate with Operations and Mine Planning teams to proactively communicate project activities, schedules, and potential community impacts. Collaborate with Human Resources on local hiring initiatives, workforce development programs, and community-focused recruitment efforts. Work with Legal and Government Affairs to ensure messaging, agreements, and stakeholder interactions are consistent with regulatory and contractual obligations. Support Health & Safety and Emergency Response teams in community notification planning and incident communication. Align with Corporate Communications to ensure consistency in external messaging, branding, and crisis communications. Facilitate regular internal coordination meetings to share stakeholder feedback, track emerging issues, and ensure timely, unified responses across departments. Integrate community feedback into operational decision-making by providing actionable insights to site leadership and functional teams.Qualifications & Educational Requirements:Qualifications to include any combination of education and experience that provide the required skill and knowledge for the successful performance of the position. EducationBachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master’s preferred).Experience7+ years of experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, or public affairs.Experience in mining, natural resources, or heavy industry strongly preferred.Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic engagement plans.Proven experience leading and developing teams.Skills and Competencies:Strong leadership and team-building skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Conflict resolution and negotiation expertise. Knowledge of regulatory and permitting processes in Nevada or similar jurisdictions. Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including rural communities and tribal nations. Frequent interaction with external stakeholders and travel within the region. Occasional evening or weekend meetings to support community engagement activities.The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 75 lbs. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. The office is a non-smoking facility with outside smoking areas. Job requires regular work onsite at the mine in addition to ancillary locations offsite; where employee may be exposed to loud noise, dust, inclement weather, and other conditions related to mining. Job requires working at heights and around heavy equipment.
