About the Missouri Workers Center
Founded in 2021, MWC grew out of more than a decade of low-wage worker organizing in Kansas City. We build a multi-racial, working-class movement in Missouri that fights for democracy in our communities, our government, and our economy. Our work spans worker organizing (warehouse, restaurant, data center, and stadium workers), state and local policy campaigns, and legislative and electoral power-building across Missouri.

Position Summary
The Political Coordinator will help drive MWC's political program: translating worker and community power into legislative and electoral wins. Working closely with the Political Director, the Coordinator supports our state legislative agenda, issue campaigns, and member political education, keeping elected officials accountable to working people rather than corporate interests.

Responsibilities

• Support MWC's legislative program: track bills, prepare testimony and materials, coordinate member and worker visits to Jefferson City, and staff lobby days
• Coordinate MWC's electoral work, including candidate endorsement processes, voter engagement, and issue advocacy, in compliance with c3/c4 rules and in coordination with partner organizations
• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and their staff at the municipal and state level
• Work with coalition partners (labor unions, community organizations, and policy allies) on shared political and legislative goals
• Support member political education: help workers understand how policy decisions affect their jobs, wages, and communities, and how to act on that understanding
• Track Missouri political developments (legislative session, redistricting, elections) and produce accessible briefings for staff and members
• Represent MWC in coalitions and public forums as needed

Qualifications
Required:

• Commitment to the mission of building working-class, multi-racial power in Missouri
• Political or campaign experience: legislative advocacy, electoral campaigns, community organizing, or a related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to build trust with workers, members, and political allies across lines of difference
• Willingness to travel within Missouri, including to Jefferson City during legislative session
• Self-directed and organized, comfortable in a fast-moving environment

Preferred:

• Familiarity with Missouri politics and the state legislature
• Experience in a labor union, worker center, or community organizing setting
• Spanish-language proficiency
• Experience with voter engagement or independent expenditure campaigns

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $78,750 – $82,688 (aligned with MWC's current coordinator band; commensurate with experience)

Location
MWC has offices in St. Louis and Kansas City; the role can be based in either. Regular in-state travel required, including to Jefferson City during session.
