The Role We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and reporting function (internally and with respect to our board and lenders) for all business units and subsidiaries. This role is critical in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The Controller will develop and maintain accounting policies, oversee internal controls, and play a hands‑on role in financial operations during a period of rapid growth. This role will initially report to the Founding Partners of Catalex and will ultimately report to the CFO. What You’ll Do Oversee all financial operations for all business units and subsidiaries, including daily accounting activities and the monthly close process Ensure accurate, complete, and compliant financial records and reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP Partner with Founding Partners and the CFO to standardize operational accounting processes and policies Conduct technical accounting research and document key policies Support the integration of newly acquired firms, including purchase accounting and operational transitions Manage treasury and accounts payable functions, including cashflow forecasting and liquidity management across entities and business units Collaborate with independent auditors and prepare audit documentation Collaborate with tax advisors as needed to manage the tax function Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency Work with the internal finance departments at each law firm that joins Catalex to assist in the execution of law firm‑level finance functions What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance Proven experience managing accounting for multi‑entity, multi‑business unit operations, with preference given to those who have worked with management service organizations in either legal or other professional services contexts Background in law firm finance and private equity finance Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606 and ASC 718 Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment Integration and public accounting experience preferred CPA designation is a plus High integrity, low ego, and a collaborative mindset Persistent, proactive, and adaptable—able to thrive with limited supervision A desire to learn new technology to innovate in the finance function A positive attitude and sense of humor are welcome here What We Offer Hybrid work within Southern California -- we are located in Southern California and aim to meet in person once per week Catalex anticipates the range of annual base salary for the Controller will range from $150,000 to $200,000. The Controller will also be eligible for an annual bonus and may be eligible for equity based upon individual and company performance.
