Systems Administrator at Vernovis. About the role Vernovis is on the lookout for a skilled Systems Administrator to enhance our IT team in the Dayton Metropolitan Area. This full-time position is focused on managing a hybrid Microsoft infrastructure that spans corporate offices and active job sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Windows Server management and will be instrumental in driving modernization efforts, infrastructure upgrades, and ongoing technological enhancements. Key facts Location: Dayton Metropolitan Area Engagement: Full-Time, Fully Onsite What you’ll do Oversee the administration of Windows Server environments, ensuring optimal performance across physical, virtual, and hybrid infrastructures. Spearhead or play a significant role in initiatives aimed at upgrading Windows Server, including migrations and modernization projects that involve core services like Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP. Provide support for Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive, while ensuring synchronization with on-premises Active Directory. Manage and maintain VMware virtual infrastructure to ensure seamless operations. Configure and support enterprise networking solutions, which include switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks, while troubleshooting network issues as they arise. Implement and oversee enterprise backup solutions, disaster recovery plans, monitoring systems, and business continuity strategies. Create and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks and enhance operational efficiency. Deliver Tier II and Tier III support, effectively balancing infrastructure projects with vendor coordination and operational duties. Collaborate with the Security team to uphold infrastructure security, manage identity, and enforce access controls. Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance and be part of a low-volume on-call rotation to address urgent issues. Requirements A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Systems Administration or Infrastructure roles. In-depth knowledge of Windows Server, including expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and server roles and features. Proven experience in leading or participating in Windows Server migration and modernization efforts. Familiarity with hybrid Microsoft environments, particularly Microsoft 365, Azure, and on-premises Active Directory. Recent hands-on experience with VMware administration. Practical skills in PowerShell scripting for automation purposes. Understanding of enterprise networking concepts, including switches, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and wireless setups. Experience with Cisco Meraki is a plus but not mandatory. Background in supporting enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure monitoring solutions. Ability to work independently while managing both operational support and project-related tasks. Strong skills in communication, documentation, and time management. Nice to have A Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent professional experience. Relevant certifications in Microsoft, VMware, or networking would be advantageous but are not required. Experience in supporting industries such as construction, engineering, or manufacturing, particularly in distributed field-service environments. Experience in mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior IT team members.
