This notice is to seek applicants to participate in the Civil Service Examination for Corrections Deputy. All classified employees/positions within the Sheriffs Office require a Civil Service Examination. When the position is open it will be a full-time position sworn (Commissioned) position within the Island County Sheriffs Office. Deputy performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in the Corrections and Detention facility located at the Island County seat in the Town of Coupeville. Corrections Deputies work in a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week maximum-security jail to maintain facility security by: receiving, booking, maintaining custody of, escorting, transporting, caring for and overseeing offenders. They are also responsible to model pro-social behaviors and promote positive correctional practices. All notifications regarding this process will be sent to you by email, unless you express a preference otherwise by written notice./ppAPPLICATION PROCESS: The application process is designed to determine your eligibility and is part of the Civil Service Examination process./polliApplicants must complete an Island County Application for Employment powered by NEOGOV as well upload to it the documents listed below in items 2,3, 4 and 5. Have these documents ready prior to submitting your application so that you are able to upload them as Attachments./liliApplicants must answer the Supplemental Questions./liliUpload to your NEOGOV application a completed Authorization to Release Information form./liliUpload to your NEOGOV application a cover letter and a resume, and any other documents you feel support your abilities to perform as a corrections deputy./liliUpload to your NEOGOV application a completed Personal History Statement (PHS) If you already have a similar document from a previous position, may submit it but you must provide any missing information. After your application form has been reviewed and accepted, you will be notified, by email, as to when/how the Civil Service examinations will be administered. You must satisfactorily pass the Civil Service Examination(s) in order to be placed on the Lateral Entry Eligibility Register. Applicants who do not meet qualifications A C (below) will not be contacted. Incomplete applications will not be considered and you will not be contacted./ppCIVIL SERVICE ELIGIBILITY REGISTER: The names of qualified candidates resulting from continuous examinations shall be entered on the eligible register. Certifications for appointments shall be made in the same manner as from any eligible register. Names of eligibles from successive examinations in the same program shall be entered on the eligible register for the class at the appropriate places as determined by final scores. Applicants will be certified from the register to fill vacant positions in accordance with local Civil Service Rules. Names of qualified eligibles who are entered on a register as a result of a Continuous Examination shall expire one year from the date their name is entered on the register./ppCIVIL SERVICE SELECTION PROCESS: Vacancies are filled by the Civil Service rule of five with the top five eligibles forwarded to the appointing authority (Sheriff) for interview and background investigation, as vacancies occur. Applicants given a conditional offer of employment are subject to further processes including polygraph examination, psychological examination, medical examination and background investigation.
