Position Summary The Universal Banker serves as a full‑service, single point of contact in the branch for customers’ financial needs. The role combines teller duties and FSR responsibilities to provide exceptional customer service, support transactional work and promote account growth. Essential Functions Serves customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to SouthState bank service standards. Knows and understands the products and services offered by the bank, including facts, features, benefits, rules, and price structures. Identifies customer needs and expectations by listening for clues. Opens opportunities to expand customer relationships by making referrals as outlined in the position goals. Maintains a neat and professional personal appearance in accordance with bank policy. Ensures compliance with all banking regulations including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act. Develops a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and enrolls customers in self‑service options. Teller Duties Processes transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts. Maintains a neat and orderly work area. Assists in guiding and training new tellers. Allows customers access to safe‑deposit boxes. Cashes checks and processes savings withdrawals within assigned limits. Sells certified checks. Balances transactions daily. Services/balances ATMs as needed. Utilizes the branch capture system. Follows policies and procedures, minimizing operational errors and maintaining proper workflow. Follows branch security and audit procedures and understands the function and operation of security devices. FSR Duties Opens new deposit accounts and explains related products and services. Handles stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits. Explains policies and procedures to customers. Resolves customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion. Directs customers with difficult problems to other sources for assistance. Views problems as opportunities to satisfy the customer and promote additional services. Provides a sincere appreciation for each customer’s time and business. Offers a business card if not already given. Ensures branch records, reports, and correspondence resulting from customer development attempts are correct, timely, and properly distributed. Follows branch security and audit procedures and understands the function and operation of security devices. Universal Banker Functions One year of teller or cash‑handling experience. Six months of customer relationship building or sales experience. Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR job functions. Additional responsibilities may include vault or backup‑vault duties. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in cash handling, sales, and customer service; prior banking experience preferred. Good interpersonal, computer, reading, writing, speaking and understanding English skills. Training Requirements The SouthState Way New Team Member Orientation Teller Foundations Banker Foundations All assigned regulatory compliance training. Acknowledgement of all policies through DocuSign as assigned. Additional training may be required depending on experience. Physical Demands Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and/or sit for long periods, and effectively read information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations. Work Environment Most likely in an open lobby area with an individual workstation inside a cooled and heated facility. Travel Travel may be required.
