JOB SUMMARY:

The Industrial Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing a wide range of

fabricated steel components, weldments, pressure‐vessel parts, and heavy‐industrial

assemblies. This role applies industrial coatings using spray systems, rollers, and brushes while

ensuring all work meets required specifications, quality standards, and safety procedures. The

Painter supports production by delivering high‐quality surface preparation and coating

application in a fast‐paced fabrication‐shop environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Perform industrial surface preparation including sanding, grinding, wire‐brushing,

blasting, and chemical cleaning to remove rust, mill scale, weld spatter, and old

coatings.

• Mix and prepare industrial coatings (epoxy, urethane, zinc‐rich primers, enamel, etc.)

according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements.

• Apply coatings using spray guns, airless sprayers, rollers, and brushes to achieve

required thickness, finish, and coverage.

• Read and follow specifications and requirements to ensure compliance with customer

and code requirements.

• Inspect surfaces for defects, contamination, or improper preparation and correct issues

before coating.

• Apply specialty finishes, touch‐ups, and multicoat systems as required.

• Set up, operate, and maintain spray equipment, hoses, pumps, and PPE.

• Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and elevated structures safely.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‐free work area.

• Assist with coating documentation, labeling, and quality‐control requirements.

• Follow all company safety procedures, including proper PPE use, ventilation practices,

and handling of flammable materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum one year of industrial painting experience in fabrication, construction, or

manufacturing environments.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of technical experience.

• Ability to properly mix, thin, and prepare coatings according to standards.

• Experience using industrial spray equipment and hand‐application tools.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

• Ability to evaluate surface conditions and coating quality using personal judgment and

measurable standards.

• Comfortable working at heights and maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated

platforms.

• Understanding of industrial safety practices, including respirator use, ventilation, and handling

hazardous materials.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and meet production deadlines.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor industrial environments with exposure to:

• Noise, dust, fumes, welding operations, and chemical odors.

• Mechanical and electrical hazards, moving equipment, and sharp edges.

• All weather and temperature conditions.

Painters must wear required PPE, including respirators, gloves, eye protection, and protective

clothing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Manual dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and repetitive arm/hand movements.

• Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching.

• Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.

• Visual acuity to inspect surfaces and read documents.

• Hearing ability to respond to shop-floor signals and communication.

• Frequent operation of motor vehicles as required.
