Manager of Youth Recreational Programming Full Time Boston, MA, US Salary Range: $55,000.00 To $65,000.00 Annually Summary The Manager of Youth Recreational Programming holds a leadership role in CRI’s programming with the advancement and management of CRI’s on-water youth rowing programs. The Manager embodies CRI’s mission by overseeing engagement opportunities for young rowers to get involved with the sport at the recreational or pre‑competitive level and any level in between. The manager exemplifies teamwork and respect toward staff, coaches, and athletes and fosters a positive community and learning environment that supports retention of all youth recreation rowers. Areas of Responsibility Management and Coaching Hire, onboard, supervise, and observe coaches to achieve each program’s goals. Facilitate coach development and perform regular check‑ins and performance reviews. Ensure coaches work toward program objectives with a focus on retention, especially among youth of color and those from diverse backgrounds. Increase the retention rate of youth learn‑to‑row, skills development, and summer skills athletes by ensuring programs operate at or above enrollment objectives and pathways for further engagement are clearly communicated. Collaborate with Directors and Managers of other CRI programs to ensure consistency in goals and messaging. Collaborate with youth recreational coaches to resolve issues and communicate with parents. Develop and oversee effective program framework management. Coach youth recreation programs, including CRI learn‑to‑row, after‑school programs, and summer learn‑to‑row and skills programs. Manage registration records; create and maintain coaching schedules, ensuring proper coach‑to‑athlete ratios and staffing. Recruitment/Retention/Recapture Organize and execute recruiting activities that lead to participation at strategically essential enrollment levels. Collaborate with coaches, including competitive team head coaches, to assess athletes for upward movement through programming. Explore, maintain, and enrich relationships with strategic community partners. Attend or identify a suitable representative for recruiting, networking, and promotional events (e.g., wellness fairs, parent nights). Increase athletes’ awareness of opportunities to advance competitively and coordinate with other coaches. Communication Provide updates to staff responsible for social media and promotional materials, internal and external stakeholders, and parents in coordination with the communications manager and senior staff. Communicate logistics, planning, and internal organizational needs to key stakeholders. Create a parent communication plan anticipating general inquiries and logistical aspects of youth programs. Effectively and appropriately communicate with parents in a timely and organized fashion, including one‑on‑one as needed. Support the execution of youth recreational special events, including Let’s Row events and races, youth races such as Head of the Q, school field trips, and other events. Let’s Row competitions and events Support Let’s Row event logistics in collaboration with the Middle School Indoor Rowing Manager. Head of the Q Organize the planning and execution of the race for youth recreation athletes. Actively participate on the race committee. School Field Trips Schedule and manage middle school field trips and other outreach/recruiting events to the Harry Parker Boathouse. Collaborate with internal stakeholders regarding scheduling, equipment, space allocation, and staffing. Organize and manage other youth recreation events as they arise. Other Duties as Assigned Skills Superior leadership, management, interpersonal, organizational, and mentoring skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively, sharing space and equipment with other CRI programs. Creative self‑starter energized by sharing the mission and message to the community in an approachable, positive, and enthusiastic manner. Ability to solve practical problems and adapt to a variety of real‑time situations. Understanding of the physiological and psychological needs of young/high‑school aged student‑athletes. Plan, organize, and teach a well‑thought‑out training plan in a highly collaborative environment. Teach sweep and sculling technique safely and effectively. Appropriately rig all classes of sweep and sculling boats for this age group. Reports to Director of Youth Programming Physical Requirements Ability to lift 30 lbs (rowing machines, gas tanks, etc.). Ability to step on uneven surfaces to move safely between water vessels and docks. Ability to project voice with assistance from a power megaphone. Ability to stand for extended periods in adverse weather conditions on water and on land. Community Rowing Inc.
