Assistant Bakery Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promote excellent customer relations by instilling positive, customer‑focused behavior with associates. Smile and greet customers, answer questions and resolve issues promptly and politely. Take customer orders over the phone or in person with a pleasant and positive attitude. Determine customer preferences in terms of size, flavor, and appearance. Create finished decorated products in a timely fashion. Decorate cakes and other bakery products using dyes, designs, or custom creations. Use a variety of creams, frostings, and fillings to achieve consistent outcomes. Make icing for cakes and related products while adhering to approved recipes. Assist the Bakery Manager with day‑to‑day operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. Perform Bakery Manager duties in the manager’s absence. Oversee inventory by tracking weekly sales reports, product orders, and supplies to support accurate period‑end physical inventory. Assist with scheduling, training, rewarding, recognizing performance, and delegating work to maximize department profits. Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) to train current and new associates. Develop and implement merchandising plans that meet financial goals. Stay knowledgeable about weekly ads and specials to ensure correct pricing and production amounts. Continuously improve knowledge of produced merchandise and enforce company production‑log policies. Check and verify all department deliveries and invoices for accurate billing. Assist in loading merchandise and transporting it to the sales floor or storage area. Enforce practices regarding receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure proper product rotation. Monitor product quality and freshness; break down deliveries. Control department expenses, improve operations, manage labor costs, and reduce losses due to damage, spoilage, and shrink. Ensure associates follow company recipes for prepared products and maintain product freshness by properly handling out‑of‑code items. Complete required product logs and keep the bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand. Maintain proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as cut‑resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company‑sponsored footwear. Assist in other departments as needed, ensuring smooth workflow within the department. Strive for continuous improvement of job performance. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise associates within the department in partnership with or in the absence of the department manager. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS High School diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, food service, or related field desirable. Minimum (2) years of management experience in a retail, restaurant, or supermarket environment. Previous decorating experience preferred. Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without accommodation. RATE OF PAY AND BENEFITS The hourly pay for this position starts at $16.00 and is up to $25.00.
