Hourly Pay Range: $18.84 - $27.32 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors. Position Highlights Position: Patient Care Technician, Medical Telemetry Location: Highland Park Hospital Full Time/Part Time: Full Time, Night shift (7am-7:30p) with Rotating Weekends Hours: 36 Required Travel: N/A Job Summary The Patient Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit. Responsibilities And Essential Functions Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: In this role, the PCT will interact with patients and visitors, answer patient call lights, answer phones, and assist visitors within the facility. Performs purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients. Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: The PCT will learn patient safe handling skills to assist in ambulation, lifting, and repositioning of patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment, supporting the nursing staff as required. Basic Nursing Care – ADLs: The PCT will provide basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, bed making, and responding to patient call lights under RN/LPN supervision. Admission / Discharge / Transfers: The PCT will assist with room setup, welcome new patients, orient them to the room and hospital, and transport or escort patients to their destinations while ensuring safety and updating patients regularly. Procedures and Treatments: The PCT will accurately complete and document patient care activities such as ADLs, vital signs, weights, intake & output, calorie counts, perform procedures (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care and dressing changes) under nurse direction, collect non‑sterile specimens, perform point‑of‑care blood glucose testing, and promote skin integrity by reporting problems. Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: When requested by the RN or LPN, the PCT may remain with a patient to ensure safety. Department Specific Tasks: The PCT will support the nursing team with indirect activities such as restocking equipment and linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing records, and retrieving and delivering supplies or test results. Minimum Requirements Minimum Education Requirements: Eligible to work in the US; completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred. Licenses & Certifications: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart Association. If not current, certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire. No Experience Required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, follow directions, and commitment to patient and family welfare. Required to attend in‑depth orientation and observe all fire, safety procedures and patient experience standards. Working Conditions: Normal mental, visual, auditory attention with manual dexterity required; exposure to blood or other infectious materials; ability to work under pressure; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds; use of N95 mask/PAPR and PPE; sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting throughout the shift. Basic computer skills required.
