Director, State Government Affairs

As Director of State Government Affairs, you’ll design and drive strategies to advance Spectrum’s interests across state and local governments. Representing Spectrum at key events, building powerful relationships, and managing critical negotiations, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our objectives are achieved and our impact is felt in every community we serve.How You’ll Make an Impact   Lead the development, coordination and execution of government affairs strategies at the state and local levelBuild and expand relationships with public officials and policy makers to strengthen Spectrum’s presence and interestsCollaborate with internal teams and external consultants to develop grass roots and third-party support for Spectrum initiativesPlan and implement budgets and initiatives to enhance Spectrum’s reputation within managed communitiesRepresent Spectrum before government agencies, commissions and authorities and organize participation in community eventsDraft, analyze and present legislation, franchise language and testimony and conduct legislative and regulatory advocacyManage outside counsel, consultants and lobbyists to ensure successful outcomes for SpectrumOversee interactions with local governments regarding permitting, right-of-way and related concernsReview, interpret and communicate franchise agreements and contracts to ensure legal and regulatory complianceRespond to escalated complaints from government authorities and monitor resolutionPrepare and negotiate franchise renewal and transfer applications and strategies with municipalitiesIdentify government-related business opportunities and support business units in responding to procurement needsWorking Conditions   Normal office conditionsFrequent travel requiredAble to work nights and weekends with a variable schedule as neededVision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focusWhat You’ll Bring to Spectrum   Required Qualifications   Education  Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experienceExperience   4+ years of political or government relations experience5+ years in cable or other regulated industry, government, public policy or legislative arenasSkills   Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legislation, regulation, contracts, franchises and legal documents Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc.) Ability to work independently, but also collaborate effectively with colleagues, peers and other internal and external constituencies Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance and operate with integrity and within company values; maintain high standards for ethical practice Knowledge of cable, telecommunications and broadband products, services and regulation preferred Background in law or public policy required Understanding of state and local government Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record within company standards and auto insurancePreferred QualificationsExperience8+ years of advocacy, lobbying and negotiation experience8+ years of political or government relations experience8+ years of related experience in cable industry, government, public policy or legislative arenas#LI-VB1 PGA720 2026-82482 PGA720 2026 Here, our employees don’t just have jobs, they're building careers. A qualified applicant’s criminal history, if any, will be considered in a manner consistent with applicable laws, including local ordinances.The base pay for this position generally is between $100,600.00 and $178,600.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
