Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on operating and troubleshooting CNC and manual lathe and mill machines in an aerospace machine workshop. You will run multiple machines simultaneously, interpret CNC programs and blueprints, use precision measuring tools to verify quality, and maintain a safe, clean, and well-documented work area while supporting continuous improvement in machining processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC lathe machines and related equipment, including Okuma Captain L370W, Impact LU15, and LB3000 base controls, ensuring parts are produced to specification.
• Run multiple machines at once and manage workflows efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Set up, operate, and adjust multi-spindle machines such as MS52, as well as equipment with Siemens and Fanuc controls.
• Perform manual machining on mills and lathes, including Bridgeport, Protrak RLX, Track DPM, and other standard manual controls.
• Read, interpret, and work from CNC programs, blueprints, and technical drawings using strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
• Use micrometers, calipers, thread gages, bore micrometers, and other tabletop gauges to inspect parts and verify conformance to specifications.
• Notify supervisor promptly of abnormal situations, equipment issues, or nonconforming product to enable corrective action.
• Make practical recommendations for improving machining methods, setups, and overall performance of work.
• Complete and maintain all required production, quality, and maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain good housekeeping conditions in the work area and consistently enforce and follow safety practices.
• Troubleshoot machining problems, adjust programs or setups as needed, and ensure machines run efficiently and reliably.
• Collaborate with team members, communicate clearly about job status, and support a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

• Strong geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge and solid math skills.
• Ability to read and understand machining CNC programs with a basic understanding of common G and M codes.
• Hands-on experience with Siemens controls for lathe machine tools.
• Proficiency in using basic tabletop gauges, including micrometers, calipers, thread gages, and bore micrometers.
• Capacity to run multiple machines at once in a production environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with the team.
• Strong organization and time management skills to manage multiple jobs and machines effectively.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting machining and quality issues.
• Experience in a machine shop environment, preferably with both mill and lathe operations.
• Ability to work with CNC machines, manual mills and lathes, and standard machining controls.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• A few years of on-the-job training (OJT) or machine shop experience are preferred.
• Experience with Swiss lathe machining, with more than 5 years on the machine, is highly valued.
• Familiarity with Fanuc controls in addition to Siemens controls.
• Experience in aerospace machining or precision manufacturing is beneficial.
• Comfort with troubleshooting CNC and manual machining processes.
• Ability to adapt to different machine types and controls in a dynamic workshop environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in an aerospace machine workshop that uses CNC lathes, multi-spindle machines, Swiss lathes, and manual mills and lathes, including Okuma Captain L370W, Impact LU15, LB3000 base controls, MS52, Bridgeport, Protrak RLX, and Track DPM. You will work with Siemens and Fanuc controls and use a variety of precision gauges and measuring tools. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organized workstations. Scheduling can accommodate weekday swing and various shifts, including options such as 4/10 or 5/8 schedules, generally within a 5 AM to 5 PM operating window, with coverage across weekday nights, weekend days, and weekend nights as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tukwila, WA.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
