Under general supervision, the Senior Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory duties, including specimen collection, waived and moderate testing (including microscopy), and EKGs. The Senior Phlebotomist will have a strong background in phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, and patient care. This position requires excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. The Senior Phlebotomist will work independently and as part of a team to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. Schedule 40‑hour work week Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Schedule includes holiday rotations Hours may fluctuate based on business needs Final scheduling will be determined by the hiring manager Location 4420 76th Street St. NE, Marysville, WA 98270 (LAB) Primary Responsibilities Venipuncture and specimen collection Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques promptly Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment Process and prepare specimens for testing and transport Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to specimen collection, testing, and equipment Give patient collection instructions (e.g., urine collection, stool collection) Instruct patients in post‑phlebotomy care Properly dispose of bio‑hazardous and sharps materials Obtain specimens for microbiology testing Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and other miscellaneous services Order sufficient supplies to perform the workload and rotate stock to prevent outdated supplies Follow venipuncture standard of work (SOW) Follow processing SOW including positive identification of all patient specimens Perform waived and moderate complexity laboratory testing Conduct both waived and moderate complexity laboratory testing, including microscopy Maintain accurate records of patient information, test results, and laboratory procedures Perform quality control and calibration procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities including proficiency testing Follow the resulting SOW Follow the processing SOW Participate in competency assessment Follow Optum Clinic lab procedures and guidelines Follow the Calling Critical Value policy Customer Experience Interact with patients and healthcare providers in a professional and compassionate manner While registering patients, always follow the reception SOW Problem‑solve efficiently and promptly Locate missing lab orders and Qualifications High School Diploma/GED (or higher) Medical Assistant–Phlebotomist (MA‑Pbt) certification from the state of Washington to perform capillary and venous invasive procedures under supervision Completion of a Phlebotomy Certificate program through an accredited school BLS (AHA) certification or ability to obtain within first 30 days 1+ year experience with excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to speak and understand clearly Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and solid computer skills Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects (occasionally up to 50 pounds) Ability to abide by the code of conduct per Optum/UHG Ability to work a 40‑hour work week per the schedule details above Access to reliable transportation and travel to other draw stations Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of blood draw experience Knowledge of laboratory information systems and electronic medical record Documented training program covering CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1423 Experience performing EKGs and accurately determining acceptable readings Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology Demonstrated solid organizational and time‑management skills Proven ability to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to specimen collection, testing, and equipment Proven ability to work with a diverse patient population (infants, children, adults, geriatric) Thorough understanding of phlebotomy techniques, procedures, and safety protocols Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment Knowledge of waived laboratory testing, sample preparation and analysis, quality control, and troubleshooting Familiarity with EKG procedures and acceptable results Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy Understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards Soft Skills Work independently and maintain good judgment
