At Ketchikan Medical Center, you'll work in a 25-bed critical access hospital providing comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, emergency, trauma, home health, and long-term care services. Here, every team member plays a vital role in delivering exceptional care and improving the health of the community.About the RoleAs a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide expert cardiopulmonary care to patients across a variety of settings—from routine diagnostic procedures to complex critical care interventions. Working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams, you'll help ensure patients receive safe, evidence-based respiratory care while contributing to outstanding clinical outcomes.What you'll do:Provides respiratory care to include diagnostic testing, oxygen and medication delivery, bronchial hygiene, arterial/capillary blood gas draw and analysis, advanced airway, and life support.Patient assessment including the ability to monitor labs, hemodynamics, and radiology findings. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individual patient care appropriate to the age of the patients.Calibrates, cleans, sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots all patient related equipment and instruments. Assembles and stores cleaned equipment.Participates in in-house educational in-services inter and intradepartmental as well as attending outside seminars and workshops, as requested by Manager.Participates in various intermittent department tasks including, but not limited to, audits, quality assurance, statistical record keeping, patient charting and other special projects as specified by Manager.May act as a member of trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rapid response teams.Responsible for ventilator and Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) management including ensuring safe, evidence-based setting with appropriate changes.May become trained as a core therapist in an ICU or diagnostics area (e.g., PFT or Sleep Lab) to meet department needs.Performs other duties as assigned.What You'll BringAccredited Program Required: Respiratory Care Program 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program or approved alternative education as outlined in the state regulatory requirements andRequired: Must pass the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist exam within 6 months of hireMinimum of 2 years Preferred: Experience in acute care as a Respiratory Therapist andMinimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in a pulmonary function lab andPreferred: Experience in ICU, Pediatrics, or ObstetricsRequired: within 6 months Registered Respiratory Therapist andPALS, ACLS and BLS are all required upon hire.NRP certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire.ACLS required for staff conducting stress tests.SkillsProficient with MS Office applications. (Required)Must be able to set up, operate, and troubleshoot all respiratory or pulmonary function related equipment, as applicable, in a quick and efficient manner. (Required)Must be able to quickly assess acute, critical care situations and respond with a decisive and appropriate course of action. (Required)Good time management skills. (Required)Working ConditionsLiftingPatient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.Lifting (non-patient)/carrying occasionally up to 25 lbs.Push/Pull: 1-25 lbs. of force occasionally (i.e., moving equipment).Stooping/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling occasionally.Environmental ConditionsExposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting or in office environment.Mental/VisualVision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.PeaceHealth is committed to the overall wellbeing of our caregivers: physical, emotional, financial, social, and spiritual.
