Design Engineer II

Job Summary Work assignments are varied and of moderate scope and complexity. Exercise moderate levels of independent judgement along with general guidance to complete an established objective within budget and scheduling constraints. Work primarily with the development or improvement of products, designs, and processes. This will include conceptualisation, basic research, planning, design, testing, analysis, prototyping, validation and implementation. Draw solutions from both formal training and experience. Knowledgeable of common industry concepts, practices, processes, requirements and procedures. Plan and perform engineering duties for part of a major project or for projects of moderate complexity. May provide work direction to technicians and less experienced engineers. Rely on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform many functions of the job. Provide technical expertise on production processes, issue resolution and product support. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Own small‑scale projects and take them from concept to implementation. Obtain buy‑in from more senior engineers. Leveraging experience in one or more technical disciplines, resolve most engineering issues without assistance. May conduct analysis on a specific item or in support of a larger project. Develop testing protocol with input from others and then execute it. Develop quality expectations and ensure QA protocols are in place for adherence to standards. Establish production procedures, work instructions, QA matrices and bills of materials for a single product or a specific production activity. Provide problem resolution using root cause corrective action methodologies. Perform modification and refinement of existing product lines. Meet all company work schedule and attendance expectations and perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job. Create new documents such as reports and test plans. With oversight and direction, for new purchased parts work with vendors to establish quality expectations, obtain costing, validate performance and may do some cost analysis. Contribute on larger‑scale engineering projects. Level Requirements Basic: Incumbent is able to use their knowledge/skill with support by more experienced individuals. Advanced: Incumbent is able to independently use their knowledge/skill. Expert: Incumbent is able to train others on their knowledge/skill. Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Working experience in engineering. Experience in multiple technical disciplines such as polymers, composites, fabrication methods, coatings, castings or machining. Developing project management, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills. Effective written and oral communication skills with people at all levels of the organisation. Effective computer skills, including MS Office and MS Project. Developing skills to effectively lead a team. Able to handle most work‑related issues, but exercise good judgment on when to request support. Technical Skills Proficient in Catia. Comfortable using hand tools.
