The CLS works to bring together emerging scientific capabilities in testing, analytics, and communications reflecting a new level of coordination, support, and leadership for the public health laboratory system at the state, local and national level. In addition, the Center relies on a continuous improvement infrastructure as a core value in developing solutions that emphasize a culture of quality and performance through performance management success. Department Website: Job Description and Duties This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by strengthening the state environmental public health and laboratory testing program. The Health Program Specialist (HPS) I functions as a highly skilled, technical program specialist. The HPS I assists in the planning, organizing, and carrying out of scientific research studies to reduce airborne pathogen transmission by improving air quality as mandated under Health and Safety Code 425, 105400 et seq. The HPS I assists with strategy design, policy recommendations, programmatic interventions, data collection and analysis, and evaluation methods. The HPS I provides consultations to local, state, and federal agencies and community organizations. The HPS I is responsible for complex administrative and fiscal tasks for the air quality program. The incumbent works under the direction of the Research Scientist Manager, Branch Chief of the Environmental Health Laboratory Branch (EHLB). 425, 105400 et seq. The HPS I assists with strategy design, policy recommendations, programmatic interventions, data collection and analysis, and evaluation methods.
