Job Overview A law firm seeks an Intellectual Property Associate in Seattle, WA, with at least 3-4 years of patent-prosecution experience in a law firm environment. The role involves protecting innovations in technology, including electrical, mechanical, and software innovations for consumer products and emerging products developed by startups. Duties Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications for cutting-edge technologies. Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and product leaders to develop strategic patent portfolios. Communicate with in-house counsel and client representatives on patentability and portfolio strategy. Participate in invention-harvesting sessions and portfolio reviews. Assist with supervision of junior team members. Potential involvement in patent trial and appeal board and ex parte reexamination projects. Requirements At least 3-4 years of patent-prosecution experience in a law firm environment. Bachelor's or graduate degree in computer or information science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, or related field. Demonstrated experience with software-based technologies and innovation. Certifications: USPTO registration number preferred. Must pass the patent bar exam within the first twelve months if not already registered. Skills Strong understanding of software-implemented inventions and computer-related innovations. Ability to translate technical concepts into strategic patent portfolios. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
