Coordinator of New Student Experience (Academic Coordinator) Department: SOAR -Orientation Location: Wellesley Hills MassBay fosters educational excellence and academic success to prepare students for local and global citizenship, to promote their personal growth, to meet critical workforce demands of communities, and to contribute to the region's economic development. Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts. Position Summary The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. The Coordinator of New Student Experience serves as the architect of the new student journey, providing the continuity that transforms a series of onboarding steps into a genuine sense of belonging. From a student's first step into the pre-registration orientation (Ready2Register session) through the end of their first year at MassBay, this role ensures the experience is cohesive, intentional, and welcoming. Reporting to the Dean of Students and/or Designee, the Coordinator leads the vision and implementation of Ready2Register, oversees the student leader Peer Navigator, carries an advising caseload of students, and develops programming that supports new student success through their first year. This role works collaboratively across Student Development to ensure every new student feels connected to the college from day one. Key Responsibilities and Duties Program Coordination & Development Leads the vision and ongoing development of Ready2Register, ensuring program curriculum remains current, effective, and engaging; Oversees implementation and quality of Ready2Register sessions facilitated by Peer Navigators; Designs, implements, and assesses programming that supports new student transition, belonging, and success across the first year; Collaborates with Student Engagement on orientation programming, including the kickoff event, to ensure a seamless and connected new student experience; Coordinates family orientation and family engagement programming; Identifies gaps in the new student experience through data, Peer Navigator feedback, and advisor input, and develops responsive programming to address them; Maintains and updates New Student Programs webpages to ensure content is current, accurate, and student-facing; Student Advising & Support Performs academic advisement to an assigned caseload of new students, including international students (i.e. advises students on course selection, program requirements, college policies, and transition issues); Refers students to appropriate offices and outside agencies as needed; Monitors academic progress and initiates outreach for students who have not connected with appropriate support; Coordinates with the Designated School Official for international students as appropriate; Coordinates the provision of academic support services to assist new students in connecting to advising, campus resources, and the broader college community; Participates in early alert and retention initiatives in coordination with advising and student affairs colleagues; Peer Navigator Supervision Coordinates the student leadership Peer Navigator program (i.e. recruits, hires, trains, instructs, and evaluates Peer Navigators; instructs assigned staff in performance of duties according to established standards); Plans the work of others and allocates personnel; prioritizes, assigns, reviews, and coordinates work; assists with complex or problem situations and provides direction; Responds to employee issues and concerns; interviews and recommends selection of new employees; Coordinates Peer Navigator involvement in Ready2Register sessions and new student onboarding activities throughout the academic year; Collaborates with advising staff to ensure Peer Navigators are meaningfully integrated into student outreach; Administration & Institutional Contribution Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities (i.e. maintains student files, notes, and contact logs documenting student advisement and program interactions); Prepares program reports, summaries, and documentation; assists with divisional programs and initiatives as needed; Responsible for tracking and assessing new student and orientation attendance numbers, registration numbers, and how orientation affects retention; uses data to inform continuous program improvement; Prepares and manages the New Student Programs budget, including monitoring expenditures and assisting in budget development; Interacts with various agencies, individuals, and faculty (i.e. partners across Student Development and with Enrollment Services to ensure alignment across all touchpoints in the new student experience); Participates in institutional committees and working groups; communicates with faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies to coordinate activities and resolve problems; Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Sociology, or closely related field; with five (5) years experience and/or training that includes academic advisement, academic placement, counseling, career development, math/electronics teaching, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preferred Qualifications Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affiantive Action; Experience working in a community college or similar environment; Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need; Demonstrated successful experience in a community college or comparable setting is desired as well as experience conducting leadership training, advising student organizations, conducting orientation programs, and working with varied range of populations; Bilingual proficiency in English and one or more additional languages; Demonstrated experience working with students in co-curricular activities including but not limited to student government and mentoring programs; Demonstrated experience in the area of programming, training, policy development or administration, and facilitation of student programs; Experience coordinating orientation and first-year programs, leadership training programs, and other campus-wide comprehensive activities; Experience working with higher education commuter populations to motivate and energize students in co-curricular activities; Experience and demonstrated abilities in electronic media development including webpage design; Working knowledge of civic engagement efforts and commitment to integrating community awareness activities into co-curricular programming; Familiarity with EAB Navigate, Slate (CRM) or similar student success platforms. Additional Information Salary Range: $80,066 - $89,537 in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
