Bus Nurse - LPN



Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour

Location: Mobile, Alabama; Onsite

Position Summary


As a Bus Nurse, you will provide direct nursing care and medical support to medically fragile students during school transportation within a school-based setting. This role is primarily geared toward Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), though Registered Nurses (RNs) are also encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include monitoring student health needs during transportation, responding to medical situations, and ensuring students safely travel to and from school while collaborating with school staff, transportation personnel, and families. Responsibilities

Schedule / Shift

• Shift details: Morning and afternoon school bus routes
• Hours per week: Approximately 6 hours daily split between two shifts
• Contract length: School-based assignment

Key Duties

• Ride the school bus with students during morning pickup and afternoon drop-off routes
• Provide direct medical care and monitoring to students during transportation
• Follow student Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and physician orders
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies during transport
• Support students requiring tracheostomy care, seizure monitoring, diabetes management, feeding tube support, medication administration, and toileting assistance
• Communicate effectively with school staff, transportation personnel, and caregivers
• Maintain accurate documentation and incident reporting
• Ensure all transportation safety procedures and protocols are followed

Requirements

Education

• Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Licenses & Certifications

• Required: Active Alabama LPN or RN license
• Required: Current CPR/BLS certification

Skills

• Experience working with pediatric or medically fragile populations preferred
• Ability to provide tracheostomy care, seizure monitoring, diabetes management, medication administration, and feeding tube support
• Strong communication, observational, and documentation skills
• Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations
• Comfortable assisting students with toileting and diapering needs as required
