Endoscopy Technician I

The Endoscopy Technician I has either no experience in endoscopy or is a novice in the endoscopy setting. The technician assists nurses and physicians in providing care for endoscopy patients. They must complete competencies for all basic GI procedures and scope reprocessing. The technician supports the area with duties that include preparation of the procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment. This includes gathering all required instruments and supplies and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. The job also includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking and maintaining supplies, and care and maintenance of endoscopes and their accessories. A strong sense of infection control in the GI setting is essential.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Proficiency in all general endoscope procedures, equipment, and supplies, including cleaning endoscopes and accessories is required.
• Fulfills all essential functions of the GI Lab Technician and functions in all areas of the Endoscopy lab.
• Prepares for scheduled, emergent, urgent, and add-on endoscopic procedures by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready for use.
• Has the skill to expedite and organize preparation for unexpected events, giving direction and support to less experienced team members.
• Functions independently within the scope of the position and anticipates the needs of the physician and RN during procedures.
• Must be proficient in operating all equipment in GI and providing technical assistance during procedures.
• Take emergency call after normal operating hours and weekends as per departmental needs.
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of infection control principles and standards.
• Takes a proactive role in quality improvement monitoring and plans.
• Demonstrates effective and professional communication skills.
• Works as a collaborative team member and assists with the planning of daily assignments.
• Assists in the trial and evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
• Functions in a manner aligned with goals for quality care, patient satisfaction, and safety.
• Maintains confidentiality and supports evidence-based practice and ethical accountability.
• Maintains current BLS certification and SGNA certification.
• Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards of work.
