Emergency Department Technician, Adult ED, 36 Hours (Nights, E/O Weekend, E/O Holiday)

Position Summary As a Emergency Department Technician at Boston Medical Center (BMC), you will be a key member of the healthcare team in the Adult Emergency Department. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, you will provide direct clinical and support services. You will participate in the delivery of patient and family care and work cooperatively with all healthcare team members. Job Responsibilities Perform a variety of delegated patient care interventions in the ED, including obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and providing emotional support. Perform environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Contribute to the efficient operation of the ED, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes. Work collaboratively with nurses, physicians, and other team members to meet patient, family, and staff needs. Job Requirements High school diploma or GED certificate. Ability to communicate effectively in English with staff and patients. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Ability to pass clinical competency testing. Physical ability to meet job responsibilities, including lifting and moving patients. Basic math and computer proficiency. At least one year of direct patient care experience. One of the following: currently enrolled in a nursing program with two completed clinical rotations; completed an approved Emergency Medical Technician training program; completed an approved Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant training program; or worked at least one year as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant.
