Description The Sterile Processing Tech II reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, regulations, and accreditation standards. Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge and use of the Tray Tracking computer system. Decontaminate, disinfect, and/or sterilize surgical instruments per policies and infection control protocols. Inspect, sort, and process instruments per policy and procedures. Report and isolate damaged and missing items to Resource Coordinator and Manager. Assemble and organize instrument sets according to count sheets. Prepare instrument trays for sterilization by wrapping or using a sterilization container. Perform quality assurance and biological testing on equipment and document results. Operate ultrasonic cleaner, washer‑decontaminator, heat‑sealing apparatus, sterilizers, and cart washers per guidelines. Maintain logs, prepare, check and record test results; approve or refuse materials based on results; report adverse results to management. Execute procedures for equipment malfunctions. Prepare and deliver accurate and timely case carts for surgical procedures. Respond to instrument and supply requests from customers promptly. Maintain a friendly, clean, and orderly work environment. Check and reprocess any expired items. Accurately prepare and label items for the appropriate sterilization method. Act as a resource to other staff. Maintain knowledge of all department areas by rotating through assigned work areas to meet customer needs. Maintain National or International Certification for Sterile Processing and Distribution; pursue continuing education. Complete work from previous shift to accommodate department schedules. Dispense and deliver materials via dumbwaiter, tube system, elevator, and/or handcarts. Serve as preceptor during training of new employees. Communicate issues, problems, and concerns to management promptly. Use established communication channels (e.g., Spectralink Phone) professionally, courteously, and tactfully during coverage. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High School Diploma. Current certification by the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel (NICHSPD), International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), or Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD). Experience and knowledge of surgical instrumentation. Experience and knowledge in all sterilization processes, decontamination, packing, shelf life, aseptic techniques, and their application to various processed items. Preferred Previous experience.
