Job Title: HVAC Service Technician

Job Description

Join a skilled residential HVAC team serving homeowners and apartment communities throughout the Peoria, Illinois area. As an HVAC Service Technician, you perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and new construction HVAC work in apartments, single-family homes, and residential renovation projects. You use your technical expertise in heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems to keep customers’ homes comfortable, safe, and energy-efficient while delivering professional, customer-focused service.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on residential HVAC systems, including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment.
• Troubleshoot HVAC system issues, diagnose root causes, and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
• Complete HVAC repairs safely and efficiently, ensuring systems operate reliably and in accordance with industry standards.
• Install and replace HVAC systems and components in apartments, single-family homes, and residential renovation projects.
• Execute HVAC work on new construction projects, including system layout, ductwork installation, and equipment setup.
• Read and interpret HVAC plans, blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals to complete installations and service work accurately.
• Conduct field service visits to residential properties, managing daily service schedules and documenting work performed.
• Perform duct work installation, modification, and repair as required for system performance and comfort.
• Utilize basic electrical and mechanical skills to support HVAC troubleshooting and system repairs.
• Use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
• Communicate clearly with homeowners and residents to explain findings, recommended repairs, and maintenance needs.
• Provide professional customer service, ensuring a positive experience and building long-term customer relationships.
• Maintain service management documentation, including work orders, parts usage, and system information.
• Operate a vehicle safely to travel between residential homes, apartment communities, and construction sites.
• Work independently in the field, prioritizing tasks and managing time to complete daily service calls.
• Follow safety procedures and industry best practices when working in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and other challenging environments.
• Collaborate with team members and, when applicable, support or mentor apprentices and less experienced technicians.

Essential Skills

• EPA Universal 608 Certification.
• Minimum 2 years of residential HVAC experience.
• Strong knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.
• Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and HVAC system repairs.
• Experience with HVAC installations and replacements in residential settings.
• Ability to read and interpret HVAC plans, diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between job sites.
• Ability to work independently and manage daily field service schedules.
• Strong customer service and verbal communication skills when interacting with homeowners and residents.
• Basic proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and HVAC controls.
• Experience with sheet metal fabrication for ductwork and related components.
• Experience in handyman work, carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, or general maintenance.
• NATE Certification.
• Experience with smart thermostats and modern HVAC control systems.
• Experience as a universal maintenance technician in residential or multifamily environments.
• Ability to mentor apprentices or less experienced technicians and support their development.
• Familiarity with construction environments and coordination of HVAC work with other trades.

Work Environment

This role is field-based and involves working in residential homes, apartment communities, and new construction sites throughout the Peoria, Illinois area. You work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including hot attics, cool basements, crawl spaces, rooftops, and other physically demanding locations. The position requires regular use of HVAC tools and equipment, basic hand and power tools, and service vehicles to travel between properties. You may work around active construction, occupied homes, and common areas in multifamily communities, following safety protocols and maintaining a professional appearance suitable for interacting with residents and homeowners.

This is a Permanent position based out of Peoria, IL.

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $72800.00/yr.
