Adjunct Instructor, Professional Truck Driver Training Program (2025-2026) – PTT Position Title: Adjunct Instructor, Professional Truck Driver Training Program (2025-2026) – PTT Department: Professional Truck Driver Training Location: Milford Job Category: Faculty Job Type: Part‑Time Temporary Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Dean, Associate Dean, and/or Program Chair for Manufacturing/Transportation, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching students in a classroom/laboratory setting. Teaching assignments include but are not limited to Commercial Carrier Driver Training. The instructor develops course objectives, implements teaching strategies, advises students, monitors and evaluates progress, and maintains accurate academic records. Essential Functions Provide instruction in assigned subject areas, including Commercial Carrier Driver Training, using varied instructional strategies such as lecture, small groups, and demonstrations. Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate records of attendance, achievement, and progress. Continuously update and broaden subject knowledge through in‑service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and self‑study. Participate in division/college meetings and serve on relevant committees. Act as academic advisor to afternoon/evening students, advising on academic progress, required courses, and institutional policies. Develop, revise, and maintain course curriculum, instructional materials, grading structures, and classroom policies. Serve as a member of the Professional Truck Driver Training Program team, fostering a positive program image and facilitating recruitment, placement, and orientation services. Administer commercial driver’s license examinations (backing test and road test). Collaborate with the Vice President of Instruction to create individual development plans for new instructors. Assume duties as Program Chair when assigned, including the full scope of instructional responsibilities. Champion the College’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and support organizational effectiveness initiatives. Marginal Functions Operate and utilize audio‑visual equipment (e.g., projector, video). Prepare budget support information, course schedules, vehicle condition reports, and other required reports. Serve as a substitute instructor when needed. Perform related duties as assigned within the division/program. Engage in additional duties across other divisions/programs as required. Adapt to varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Current DOT knowledge and experience in driving conditions, hazardous perception, speed management, traffic reading, trailer coupling/uncoupling, and proficiency in backing, shifting, concourse driving, and city, two‑lane, and interstate driving. At least two years of work experience as an over‑the‑road driver of a commercial tractor‑trailer. Positive interpersonal skills with colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to design and implement diverse teaching strategies. Capability to develop and apply appropriate evaluation methods. Valid Class A commercial driver’s license. Proficiency in evaluating backing and road driving skills. Knowledge of cab‑over and conventional tractor operations with 7, 9, 10, 13, and 16‑speed transmissions. Skill in operating tractor‑pulling 40’, 45’, 48’, and 53’ trailers. Ability to work outdoors in cold ( 100 °F) conditions for hourly periods. Capability to enter and exit cab‑over and conventional tractors. Overall demonstration of required functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years recent work experience as an over‑the‑road driver of a commercial tractor/trailer. Valid Class A commercial driver’s license, maintained throughout the term. Desired Qualifications Previous teaching experience. Salary To be determined.
