Registered Nurse In Behavioral HealthThis position functions under the supervision of the Unit Director and the leadership of the Charge Nurse. The Registered Nurse has the responsibility for providing individualized quality patient care by assessing patient needs through data collection and by designing, implementing, and continuously evaluating the plan of care. Works in collaboration with all members of the treatment team. Performs other related duties as assigned. May be assigned to any inpatient unit to meet patient care needs. Completes Nursing Admission Assessment upon admission, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and problems. Develops individualized treatment plans considering the patient's age, disability, culture, and religion. Administers medication and treatment accurately according to policies and procedures and assesses the effects of medication on the patient. Attends multidisciplinary treatment planning conferences for assigned patients and collaborates with team members to achieve identified goals. Ensures patient care is provided in accordance with the master treatment plan. Understands and implements hospital-wide policies, procedures, regulations, and standards; operates within professional scope of practice. Effectively collaborates with the treatment team to support patient plans for continuing care. Assesses learning needs and barriers to learning for patients and families, documenting appropriately. Provides age-appropriate educational opportunities and materials considering the patient and family's background. Provides input to the Unit Director regarding unit-based performance improvement measures. Participates in unit performance improvement activities through accurate data collection. Maintains a safe and orderly work environment. Immediately reports all environmental and safety hazards as per policy and procedures. Handles and disposes of infectious and hazardous materials following established policies. Reviews all assigned patient charts for new orders at the beginning of each shift. Transcribes, reviews, and co-signs medication orders within procedural time limits. Documents adverse reactions and unusual incidents using appropriate reporting methods. Uses approved abbreviations for charting at all times. Documents patient information within the medical record accurately and in a timely manner, including assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Participates in the orientation of new personnel and students as assigned. Identifies one patient problem, strength, and intervention within 24 hours of admission. Reviews the master treatment plan weekly and updates as warranted by the patient's condition. Plans and conducts nursing psycho-educational groups in accordance with unit schedule. Meets all requirements for annual IV re-certification if applicable. Models standards of behavior in all interactions. Demonstrates computer literacy and competence with required systems. Exhibits positive communication techniques while working with other members of the team to enhance patient care. Possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients of all ages. Demonstrates knowledge of key principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Interprets necessary information to identify each patient's needs relative to age, culture, disability, and other relevant factors. Completes initial patient assessments accommodating for age, cultural, and other identity issues. Maintains confidentiality and security of patient charts. Understands emergency codes and appropriate responses; CPR certification and AED usage are essential. Provides care in the least restrictive manner while utilizing appropriate crisis management techniques. Understands and implements specific protocols, safe patient handling techniques, and suicide prevention measures. Maintains a therapeutic milieu and demonstrates effective one-on-one interactions with patients. Understands and maintains unit-specific protocols and follows best practices for patient safety.
