School Nurse

The school nurse is responsible for providing healthcare services to students within the school setting, ensuring their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This role involves assessing student health needs, administering first aid, managing chronic health conditions, promoting health education, and collaborating with educators, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success.

Qualifications preferred include a Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing with appropriate DESE license, current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice, strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills, and successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.

Reports to: Building Principal

Work Year: School Year (184 days)

Salary/Benefits: Consistent with the negotiated educator salary schedule

Performance responsibilities include conducting health assessments of students to identify any health concerns or conditions that may impact their academic performance or overall well-being, providing immediate first aid and emergency care to students who are injured or become ill during school hours, developing and implementing individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions, monitoring and maintaining records of student immunizations, collaborating with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school personnel to address student health concerns, coordinating and conducting health screenings, maintaining accurate and confidential health records for all students, participating in school crisis response teams, and staying informed about current trends and best practices in school nursing.

Physical and environmental demands include the ability to work in a normal classroom/office and school building environment, move freely about the building to perform duties with staff, and utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position.
