Overview Position: Phlebotomist — Full Time Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm Department: Lab Location: 12500 N. Dale Mabry HWY, Tampa, FL Responsibilities Essential Functions – Front Office Functions Perform start duties prior to opening Lab Add tests for add-ons, handle recollects, and properly charge STATs to HMOs Handle copies of insurance cards; use proper stamps on orders (e.g., FROZEN, LabCorp, Quest) Print daily logs; manage petty cash; fax reports from previous day Handle drug screen collections; quote lab prices; make deposits Print labels for requisitions and specimens; obtain ABN forms for Medicare patients Obtain orders from Intergy or patients; obtain and use valid diagnosis codes Identify patients correctly; collect monies and issue receipts Clarify ambiguous orders per protocol; facilitate verbal orders as needed Verify patient insurance information; provide lab results to patients and doctors Direct incoming faxes to correct personnel; answer phone and transfer calls Communicate panic or stat results to the appropriate provider per protocol Maintain productivity with accurate, timely work and low error rate Demonstrate understanding of assigned tasks and adaptability to new work routines Phlebotomy Verify that orders and requisitions match; ensure ABN is properly filled out and signed Label specimens correctly and include required information (date, time, initials, tube type) Ability to draw approximately 6 patients per hour (35–40 per day) Rarely requires a butterfly needle; seek assistance before using one Maintain requisitions in folders and assist with preparing folders for scanning Provide phlebotomy services to doctor’s offices as needed (e.g., Special Procedures, Family Practice) Back Office Prepare reports for distribution; load specimens as they pass through Provide missing billing information (e.g., diagnoses) to remote labs Process internal billing charges, keeping them within 3 days Maintain daily requisitions in order; manage outstanding tests reports for LabCorp and Quest Monitor error logs and retrieve results or transmit requisitions when needed Direct incoming mail to correct personnel; perform mail-outs daily with correct addresses Processing Specimens Spin down specimens as needed; check for fibrinogen and clots Prepare specimens for transport (special tubes as required) Distribute and handle STATs per protocol; perform Clean-outs in Flex-e Suite Inventory Keep accurate inventory of supplies; distribute supplies to remote labs Keep the supply area neat and maintain regular, punctual attendance per policies Maintain compliance with Orlando Health policies and procedures Perform other duties as assigned Computer Utilization Access results and print in Intergy, Flex-e Suite, and LCM; print patient demographic sheets and insurance cards Load insurances into Intergy and set proper coverage; create requisitions in Clinicians for LabCorp, Quest, LIS Perform result retrieval and transmissions; print billing reports or work lists for STAT, MAIL, and Fax logs Perform “Clean-outs” in Flex-e Suite; register a new patient in Intergy or update existing information Other Related Functions Maintain an organized and clean work area; handle phone service as appropriate Participate in maintenance of office supplies Perform other incidental and related duties; travel to different FMC locations as needed Maintain reasonable regular attendance per policies Qualifications Education/Training: High School Graduate or equivalent required Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomist Certification Experience: Minimum of 1 year phlebotomy experience; strong customer service orientation; excellent telephone etiquette; strong computer proficiency; strong team player; excellent phlebotomy skills Orlando Health proudly embraces and honors the individuality of our team members.
