JOB PURPOSE Assure consistent product Safety and Quality by developing, implementing, and verifying manufacturing practices and procedures that comply with the stated corporate mission and strategic plan, corporate policies, procedures, and customer product specifications. Additionally, to effectively manage all assigned personnel. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Plans and implements programs that meet corporate, Food Safety, and Quality missions. Provides continuing documentation, verifying compliance with the mission and strategic plan. Achieves Food Safety and Quality objectives including compliance to product specifications by contributing information and analysis to the strategic plan, completing action plans, implementing customer service standards, identifying and correcting out-of-control processes, and managing both internal and external product safety and quality audits. Assists in driving continuous process improvement and implementing change when required. Develops food safety and quality plans by actively managing the development of HACCP plans and all appropriate pre-requisite programs such as sanitation programs, GMPs, employee training, and supplier approval. Validates Food Safety and Quality plans by developing product and process specifications and provides documented evidence of continuous compliance. The capability of developing and implementing corrective action-preventative measures in the event that a process is out of control. Drives continuous process and product improvement based on data and the application of statistical techniques. Ability to effectively hire and manage packinghouse staff. Provides coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action when required. Effectively evaluates employee’s performance against agreed-upon objectives. Ability to effectively work with night sanitation staff. Provides coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action when required. Effectively evaluates employee’s performance against agreed-upon objectives. Maintains expertise in managing Regulatory issues. Updates and communicates Food Safety and Quality knowledge to the organization. Drives culture and ethics to assure safe, quality production of food to enhance the Pero Family Farms Brand with customers & consumers. Ensure that all quality control records, test results, and corrective actions are properly documented. Train new and existing QC staff on inspection procedures, quality standards, and food safety protocols. Provide performance feedback and support professional development of QC team members. Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, USDA, FDA, and company policies. Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented as needed. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a manufacturing/packinghouse environment. Regular exposure to food production areas, including fresh produce processing. Exposure to product fumes such as onions, peppers, and similar produce. Exposure to varying temperatures, including refrigerated environments (36°F or less). Exposure to cleaning and sanitation chemicals such as chlorine and related agents. Interaction with day and night sanitation staff, requiring flexibility in work schedule. Occasional use of cutting utensils such as knives or peelers. Overtime may be required based on operational and business needs. Work requires compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards at all times. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended and varying periods of time. Frequent use of hands for simple and firm grasping, writing, and handling materials. Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing. Ability to lift and carry items weighing between 5 and 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity in a production and inspection environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE B.S. degree preferable, but not required in the relevant area of study, i.e. Food Science, Bacteriology, Chemical Engineering, Statistics, Horticulture, Dairy Science. Minimum 2 years’ experience preferable, but not required in supervising Food Safety and Quality programs.
