Communications CoordinatorScientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) is on a mission to close the STEM gender gap — one hands-on science class, one confident girl at a time. We're looking for a creative, detail-driven Communications Coordinator to help us tell that story to the world.If you love turning a classroom moment into a scroll-stopping Instagram post, a donor newsletter into a page-turner, or a press pitch into a headline — this is your role.The Communications Coordinator position is part-time, hourly, non-exempt. This role reports directly to the Director of Development and Communication and plays a central part in communications and marketing.Commitment:15 - 20 hrs/weekMonday - Friday; specific days and hours to be finalizedRequired in the office 3 days per week (hybrid schedule) based on organizational needsBased out of our Berkeley office, with occasional local travel (e.g., networking events, fundraising events, visiting printers)Why work with us?Regular position: job security as a regular employee, with room to learn and grow in your role.Competitive salary: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour (depending on experience)Meaningful work: every post, story, and campaign you create directly supports girls getting hands-on access to STEMVariety & growth: no two days look the same, from social media to press outreach to event storytelling, giving you room to build a broad, versatile skill set.Perks and benefits: we value our team and offer a range of benefits including 100% paid dental and vision, professional development, and more.Team culture: we're a small, supportive team that loves to have fun and celebrate together.A collaborative team: work closely with a small, mission-driven staff where your ideas are heard and your impact is visibleYour role in a nutshell:Own our social presence — using agency strategy, create and publish content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and beyondDesign and format newsletters & email campaigns that keep donors, families, and volunteers engagedCapture the magic — attend programs and events to gather photos, videos, and stories straight from the sourceKeep our website fresh — update content, program info, and event listingsSubmit and track press releases sent to appropriate news outlets and reportersBring events to life — design flyers, invitations, and promotional materials, and provide live coverage on-siteWhat we're looking for:2–4 years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or PRA sharp eye for visual storytelling (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)Comfort with social platforms, email marketing tools (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.), and a CRM or databaseStrong writing chops and the organizational skills to juggle multiple projects at onceA valid driver's license and reliable transportation for occasional local travelBonus points: nonprofit experience, Spanish (or other multilingual) skills, or a soft spot for STEM/youth programmingPhysical environment:Ability to work at a computer and perform repetitive motions 70% of the time.Ability to occasionally lift and move office supplies and equipment up to 40 lbs.Ability to travel locally as needed (e.g., networking events).Ability to be physically present in the office 3 days per week.About us:SAfG is on a mission to break down barriers for girls in STEM from an early age.
