Grounds Technician

We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Grounds Technician to join our Gardens and Grounds team, helping to maintain safe, attractive and well-managed outdoor spaces across our University estate. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll play a key part in delivering high‑quality grounds maintenance services that support teaching, learning and research environments. What will you be doing? As a Grounds Technician, you will: Carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance and landscaping duties Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, ATVs and hand tools Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with procedures Support seasonal and reactive work (e.g. storm damage or peak periods) Undertake duties such as mowing, strimming, litter picking (including sharps), and bin emptying Support street cleaning operations, including graffiti and fly‑posting removal Use University vehicles to visit sites across the campus estate Work flexibly across different sites and teams as required. Work independently to prioritise tasks and respond to changing needs Communicate with colleagues, students and contractors to ensure service quality Assist with mentoring and supporting new or less experienced team members You’ll also be trusted to use your initiative and make day‑to‑day operational decisions to keep services running efficiently.
