Business Operations Specialist

Summary This position is located in the DEA, Office of Forensic Sciences, Forensic Laboratories. The primary purpose is to serve as an intermediate trainee Business Operations Specialist to provide liaison, administrative, and financial support for a DEA Forensic Laboratory. Typical Work Assignments Serves as the primary liaison with the DEA Human Resources Division to support laboratory activities. Provides advice and guidance for the laboratory acquisitions program. Assists in the formulation, establishment, monitoring, execution of fiscal‑year budgets, plans, and cost estimates for the laboratory. Advises and assists laboratory leadership in special projects that require presentations, change management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Works under the general direction of the Laboratory Administrative Officer as required. Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. Employment is subject to successful completion of a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Subject to random drug testing. Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check. Selective Service registration is required for eligible males. Qualifications GS‑11 Applicants must meet one of the following: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to work performed at the GS‑9 grade level. Specialized experience includes paid or unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Three full years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. A combination of education and experience that computes to at least 100% based on the formula: (months of experience ÷ 12) + (completed graduate semester hours beyond the second year ÷ 18). Specialized experience must demonstrate: Advising supervisors, customers, and team members on administrative and management matters regarding policies, procedures, and regulations that impact the operation of a laboratory, division, or major office. Executing supervisor's priorities and business operations to meet deadlines. Managing day‑to‑day operations to support mission requirements. Assisting in managing the business operations support activities and functions of an office related to Administrative Support Services, Acquisition of Products & Services, Fiscal Administration, and Records Management. GS‑12 Applicants must meet one of the following: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to work performed at the GS‑11 grade level. Three full years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Combination of education and experience computing to at least 100% as described above. Time‑In‑Grade Requirement Applicants must meet time‑in‑grade and time‑after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Educational Requirements Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the education requirements if the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited U.S. institution.
