CFO Advisory, Associate (Staff)

Overview Cherry Bekaert is a full‑service public accounting and consulting firm. The Government & Public Sector (GPS) practice supports state and local governments in meeting financial reporting and internal control requirements. We are seeking a Staff Associate to join our GPS team, assisting clients in protecting and enhancing the value of their organizations through improved controls, risk management and growth facilitation. What your days look like Support governmental accounting advisory engagements by delivering timely and accurate accounting and financial reporting support, including implementation of new accounting standards, account reconciliations, financial statement closing procedures, and on‑demand governmental accounting support. Perform engagement activities under the guidance of a senior team member, participate in client discussions, and assist with drafting deliverables. Types of projects you can expect Implementation of new accounting standards (e.g., GASB 101, GASB 103) Bank account and other subsidiary ledger reconciliations Financial statement close processes Drafting Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs) Accounting problem solving Financial data manipulation Internal control and best‑practice evaluation Validation of information between multiple sources of financial information What you need for this role Minimum 1+ year(s) experience within a public accounting firm or public‑sector environment (local, state or federal preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Strong accounting skills and knowledge of internal accounting controls, professional standards and regulations Prior experience with audit, accounting, and/or consulting standards (GASB, AICPA Yellow Book/Green Book) Prior experience with internal control documentation and testing Interest in serving state and local government clients Ability to work in a demanding, deadline‑driven environment with focus on details and accuracy Solid organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines Capacity to multi‑task and adapt to rapidly changing environments Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time if needed What you can expect from us Shared values that foster inclusion and belonging: integrity, collaboration, trust, and mutual respect Opportunities to innovate and work on motivating, engaging projects A collaborative environment focused on career growth and professional development Competitive compensation and total rewards package (including base salary, annual bonus, medical, dental, vision, disability, life, paid time off, paid care leave, retirement plans) Flexibility to balance work and life Chance to connect and learn from professionals of diverse backgrounds and cultures Salary Pay range: $76k to $99k (inclusive of factors such as role, function, experience, education, skills, and geographic location).
