Graduate Assistant - Civic Coordinator

Graduate Assistant – Civic Coordinator Position Summary: The Office of Civic and Community Engagement is seeking a Graduate Assistant – Civic Coordinator to collaborate with the Assistant Director to research, organize, implement, and evaluate civic learning and engagement programs. The role focuses on fostering student leadership and civic identity through coordinating student civic engagement initiatives, programs, and services. Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Assistant Director in coordinating the office’s Civic Impact Initiative: Develop and implement a comprehensive civic engagement strategy, identify 2–3 priority civic education initiatives per semester, set goals, and contribute to strategic timelines. Organize non‑partisan events, campaigns, and initiatives to enhance voter education, registration, and turnout among students, including tabling, workshops, outreach campaigns, and platform support such as TurboVote and Motivote. Plan, execute, and evaluate educational and celebratory events, including voter outreach drives, educational workshops, transportation assistance for voting, and events for national civic holidays. Advocate for sampling voter awareness and registration platforms; facilitate their integration into networking platforms. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for civic engagement events, including planning documents, timelines, and logistical checklists. Provide support to student organizations and projects focused on civic engagement, such as the Living Learning Community and Every Vote Counts Claremont, and identify additional student organizations for collaboration. Promote lectures and events related to civic engagement and democracy within the Claremont Colleges and the local community. Communication and operations: Design and create marketing materials, including flyers, social media graphics, and outreach content, and contribute to campus communications such as the DSA Digest newsletter. Spearhead efforts to research, evaluate, and improve the efficacy of our work, including surveys, participation tracking systems, and post‑event assessments. Complete weekly update reports as guided by the Assistant Director. Ensure a smooth transition by completing transition documents for the successor by the end of the term. Perform additional duties as assigned, such as proctoring exams for the Office of Accessible Education and tabling for DSA events (Fall Fest, DSA Open House). Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree and enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Higher Education Administration, Mathematics, Science, Education, or another related field. Experience: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, schools, and outreach programs. Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with students and independently with good judgment. Prioritization of multiple duties and meeting deadlines. Strategic thinking, planning, and project/event management. Personal integrity and commitment to high standards and attention to detail. Collaboration across diverse backgrounds and ability to work weekends as needed. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and related software. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an educational environment. Experience managing a student program and working with students. Remote Work Eligibility All staff positions require an initial 30‑calendar‑day on‑campus work period. This position is classified as CategoryA with no ad‑hoc remote work flexibility; the staff member is required to work exclusively on campus. Physical Requirements Regular duties involve sitting, standing, using hands and fingers, talking and hearing; occasional reaching, lifting up to 10pounds, and moving up to 25pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Hours Regular office hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. but may vary due to departmental or college needs. A work schedule will be arranged at the start of each term. Classification Non‑exempt, part‑time, temporary, up to 15hours per week, non‑benefits eligible. Anticipated duration: July1,2026 to May29,2027. Salary Starting salary is $17.50 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Reports To Assistant Director of Civic and Community Engagement.
