Criminal Field Investigator - Gaming Enforcement

Job Overview Department Information Position offers a $5,000 signing bonus and requires an active & valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification at the time of application. The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) seeks a Criminal Investigator to join its Division of Gaming – Gaming Enforcement Unit. This role involves field enforcement, complex financial/criminal investigations, and regulatory oversight within Colorado’s gaming industry. Responsibilities Lead complex criminal and compliance investigations into alleged violations of Colorado Statutes and Limited Gaming Regulations. Maintain a tactical presence by patrolling casino floors as an armed peace officer to deter cheating and theft. Execute legal actions, including issuing criminal summonses, preparing arrest warrants, and providing expert testimony in criminal, civil, and administrative hearings. Conduct advanced interrogations of victims, witnesses, and suspects to gather critical evidence. Perform inspections of gaming devices, facilities, and records to verify compliance with Internal Control Minimum Procedures. Investigate patron complaints regarding jackpot awards and resolve disputes using gaming technology knowledge and state law. Collaborate with local and multi‑jurisdictional agencies on case filings and provide security for Department of Revenue facilities. Collect and preserve physical and documentary evidence while maintaining state databases for inventory and sales data. Starting salary of $40.84/hr plus earned shift differentials and overtime. Minimum Qualifications Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus four (4) years of investigative experience in criminal and regulatory investigations. Option 2: Eight (8) years of investigative experience in criminal and regulatory investigations. Option 3: A combination of related education and up to eight (8) years of investigative experience equivalent to the above. Valid active Colorado P.O.S.T. certification at the time of application. Special Qualifications Must pass a background investigation and tax check prior to appointment. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License. Willingness to work nights, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and maintain on‑call status while off‑duty. Must pass a Psychological Evaluation before appointment. Must be able to qualify and maintain qualification with a firearm. Must certify and maintain arrest control technique certification. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Colorado rules and regulations related to the Division of Gaming. Experience interpreting and applying statutes and researching databases. Additional years of professional investigative or compliance experience in a regulatory environment. Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and accept supervision. Organizational skills for workload management. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
