Job Title: Registered Nurse - SICU Profession: Nursing Specialty: SICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of acute care RN experience required License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Stroke experience Ventilator management Assist with intubation/extubation Central venous line management/placement Foley catheter management Tube feedings via NGT or PEG Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: This position requires a registered nurse with experience in the SICU. The unit consists of 10 beds. Patients may present with respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, renal failure, diabetes, and neurological conditions. Surgical patients may include general surgeries, total joints, urology, and neurosurgeries. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:2. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who will take patient assignments. There is no phlebotomy available on the unit, but an IV/VAT team is available for PICC/midline placements. Resource nurses are available on-site. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and hospitalists are in-house. The charting system used is an electronic medical record. IV pumps are Alaris, and medication dispensing is through Pyxis. Traveling nurses may float to stepdown, stroke unit, or med-surg as needed. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other weekend. There is a requirement to work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Mandatory rotations can include combinations of 3/2 or 5/2. Time off requests can be made for up to 7 days, but any full week of RTO must extend the contract. Only one weekend of RTO can be requested per 13-week contract. Holiday expectations include working 2 or 3 major holidays. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement, with restrictions on cell phone usage in patient care areas, as well as no earbuds and no eating at the desk. Specific scrub colors and T-shirt requirements are outlined. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. The culture on the unit is friendly towards travelers.
