Additional Information About the Role Position Highlights $15K SOB eligible 12 Hour Days Full time 7am - 7pm shifts Overview Acute Internal Medicine Registered Nurses provide high-quality care for patients experiencing acute medical conditions, working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely and effective treatment. Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The staff consists of full‑time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes‑Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Acute Care Medicine patients present a full range of clinical issues—from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma and many other conditions. Due to the high acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and a lead charge nurse. The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally each unit has a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works with physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on how to manage illness or injury, post‑treatment home care needs, and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other interprofessional team members and patients, families or caregivers in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs. BJC has determined this is a safety‑sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
