Job Title: Maintenance Technician – 1st Shift Job Description

This 1st shift Maintenance Technician role focuses on maintaining and supporting product-specific work cells in a production manufacturing environment to minimize downtime and optimize productivity. The position primarily involves working with power transmission mechanical systems such as conveyors, gearboxes, and fluid transfer equipment in the mixing and mill area, as well as performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor facility repairs. Weekend work may be required when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support product-specific work cells to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.
• Respond promptly to machine downtime situations, diagnose issues, and restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned work cells and production equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
• Document all maintenance activities accurately, including parts used, work performed, and observations related to future maintenance needs.
• Evaluate equipment condition and identify potential future maintenance issues to prevent unplanned outages.
• Carry out process verification procedures and follow process deviation procedures when changing equipment parameters.
• Conduct mechanical repairs such as fabricating components and repairing or replacing bearings.
• Service and repair hydraulic pumps that drive mixer blades and cooling pumps that control mixer bowl temperature.
• Maintain and repair mill equipment, including rolling-pin-style mills, conveyors, belts, drives, and material transfer systems.
• Work with equipment similar to industrial baking mixers and related material handling systems, ensuring reliable operation.
• Perform minor facility maintenance repairs as needed to support overall plant operations.
• Collaborate closely with facility maintenance personnel on shared maintenance issues and projects.
• Use electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve basic electrical issues associated with machinery.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and technical documentation to perform repairs and modifications correctly.
• Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment when working in designated areas.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by suggesting maintenance-related enhancements to equipment reliability and performance.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of experience performing maintenance and preventive maintenance (PM) on production or industrial equipment.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
• Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings for maintenance and repair work.
• Hands-on experience with facilities maintenance tasks in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in machine repair, including power transmission components such as conveyors, gearboxes, belts, and drives.
• Proficiency in preventive and corrective maintenance practices for production machinery.
• Ability to perform hydraulic repairs and basic electrical troubleshooting on industrial equipment.
• Experience with troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work 1st shift with flexibility to support weekend work when necessary.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with heavy mixing equipment or industrial mixer systems.
• Background in automation or exposure to automated production equipment.
• Experience in the automotive or related manufacturing industries.
• Familiarity with fluid transfer systems and cooling pumps in a production environment.
• Ability to fabricate simple mechanical components and supports as part of maintenance work.
• Comfort working with equipment and processes similar to those found in large-scale baking or mixing operations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in documenting maintenance activities.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development within the maintenance department.

Work Environment

The role is based in a production manufacturing environment within the vibration-related industry, characterized by fast-paced operations and continuous equipment usage. Work is performed primarily on 1st shift, with occasional weekend assignments when operational needs require. Employees may perform tasks in areas where personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety shoes is required, and must adhere to all safety and housekeeping standards. The equipment includes mixers, mills, conveyors, belts, drives, gearboxes, hydraulic and cooling pumps, and material transfer systems, similar to large-scale baking and mixing equipment. The environment demands a hands-on, mechanically focused approach and comfort working around industrial machinery and process equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of GRAND RAPIDS, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
