The Senior Medical Assistant (MA) participates in providing patient care at the appropriate skill level and is responsible for supporting providers and nursing personnel. They manage the clinical environment, assist with patient needs, and mentor other MAs. Approximately 25% of the time is dedicated to clinic initiatives that drive continuous process and metrics improvement. Primary Responsibilities Performs all duties at the expert level within the scope of a Medical Assistant's scope of practice and operates diagnostic equipment, administers non‑intravenous medication, performs simple specimen collection, collects blood specimens via venipuncture or capillary, and performs EKGs. Performs quality control checks on equipment; prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave. Spends 25% of time dedicated to clinic metrics, projects, and initiatives as assigned by clinic leadership to support workflow and process improvement. Proactively identifies solutions to non‑standard requests and solves moderately complex problems independently, applying expert knowledge and skills. Records patient care documentation in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner; identifies when other MAs' documentation is incorrect and alerts clinic leadership. Acts as a mentor and trainer for MA staff, serving as a subject‑matter expert and champion. Assists in coordinating the work of other team members and promotes a positive work environment as a culture ambassador. Coordinates patient care as directed by provider and in accordance with policies and procedures. Respects patient confidentiality at all times and ensures others do the same. Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms, sterilizes instruments, gathers supplies, inventories stock, and follows up on discrepancies. Creates and maintains an environment that supports infection prevention. Conducts telephone and in‑person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring clinical judgment. Supports and follows Standard Delegation of Orders and ensures all MAs receive necessary training. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school graduate or GED equivalent. 3+ years of experience as a certified MA or a combination of 5+ years certified and non‑certified medical assistant experience (with 2+ years certified). Current BLS certification for healthcare providers (written exam and in‑person assessment) at time of hire or within 30 days of hire. Knowledge of medical terminology. Mastered ICD‑10 and CPT coding. Expert in computer literacy in electronic health record. Intermediate Excel skills. Ability to complete Tuberculosis screening and provide proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease. Preferred Qualifications 1+ years of lead or supervisory experience. Bilingual. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Proven ability to mentor and train others. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and assume a leadership role until higher levels of care arrive. Flexibility and nimbleness to adapt to change. Pay The hourly pay for this role ranges from $17.98 to $32.12 per hour based on full‑time employment. This is based on local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, and other factors. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
