Job Overview A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Technical Associate R&D at Spectra-Physics, you will partner within Core Engineering to develop electronics assemblies for cutting edge laser products. In this role, you will report to the Head of Electrical Engineering. Responsibilities Breathing Life into Prototypes: Independently assemble, wire, and solder high‑precision prototypes and complex test setups. Driving Verification: Plan and execute critical measurement series and verification tests, ensuring hardware meets performance and safety standards. Mastering the Debugging Process: Systematic troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis at the component level to identify hidden flaws early, contributing to reliability and robustness. Optimizing the R&D Ecosystem: Ownership of laboratory infrastructure and measurement equipment, maintaining a state‑of‑the‑art and efficient development environment. Qualifications Associate Degree or equivalent technical experience. Minimum 6+ years of related experience. Advanced soldering skills. Proficiency in manual cable assembly, including crimping, stripping, labeling with specialized tools. Proficiency in workshop machinery (drills, mills) and hand tools for precise modifications of enclosures and parts. Hands‑on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.). Solution‑oriented mindset and drive to tackle challenges. Ability to read technical drawings and basic experience with CAD/ECAD software (SolidWorks, Autodesk, Altium Designer) for minor design adjustments and library parts. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Sitting, standing, typing for extended periods. Lift up to 50 lbs. Good manual dexterity and coordination. Position self for tasks at various heights. Compensation and Benefits Hourly Pay Range: $35–$59 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate based on qualifications, experience, and other factors. Bonus: Eligible for discretionary annual bonus.
