Head Start Family Resource Worker

Starting Date: Immediately Head Start Family Resource Worker Location: As assigned by the Program Coordinator or Grant Manager. Job Summary: The Head Start Family Resource Worker initiates and maintains regular contact with families, at least once weekly, for up to two years. Visits are primarily in the family’s home and each lasts at least one hour. The role is family‑centered and strength‑based, focused on building trust, strengthening parent–child relationships, improving parenting skills, enhancing the home environment, expanding family support systems, and increasing families’ problem‑solving and advocacy abilities. The worker also identifies and refers families to supportive agencies, assists in goal setting and planning for the target child, and serves as a liaison between home and school. Responsibilities Maintain weekly contact with families until the target child’s developmental needs are achieved. Build a trusting relationship based on a family‑centered, strength‑based approach. Support parents in improving skills to enhance the home environment and parent–child interaction. Identify and refer families to community resources and healthcare appointments. Assist families in setting goals and developing a plan for the target child’s progress. Serve as the liaison between home and school, coordinating communication and support. Maintain accurate and confidential records of visits, referrals, and progress. Uphold Head Start and Calvert County Public Schools’ policies and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Experience working with families and children. Knowledge of child development, parent‑child relationships, and family‑centered service models. Ability to work effectively with families in varied and sometimes chaotic environments. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Commitment to non‑judgmental, culturally responsive practice. Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while remaining supportive. Experience advocating for nurturing, non‑violent discipline and working with culturally diverse communities. Writing and documentation proficiency. Terms of Employment 12‑month contract, 7 hours per day. Salary: $30.61 per hour. Background and Eligibility Requirements Applicants must be fingerprinted, submit to a criminal background investigation, complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I‑9) in person before starting, and pass a drug screen. Current Calvert County Public Schools employees are exempt from the fingerprinting requirement.
