Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 50 firm seeking a Labor & Employment Counsel for its Los Angeles or San Francisco office. The ideal candidate will have nine to twelve years of relevant labor and employment law experience.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) required.
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of California.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Experience defending single-plaintiff litigation matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour disputes, and reasonable accommodation claims.
Experience handling PAGA matters and class actions .
Ability to manage cases independently from start to finish.
Strong research, writing skills, and academic record.
Experience drafting and responding to initial pleadings and discovery .
Experience drafting and arguing dispositive and discovery motions .
Experience taking and defending depositions , including plaintiffs' depositions and corporate witness depositions.
Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations , with experience in employment counseling.
A portable book of business is preferred but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This role operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.
Physical Requirements: Sedentary work requiring occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 10 pounds. The role involves prolonged sitting with occasional walking and standing.
Visual Acuity: Requires close visual acuity for tasks such as analyzing data, transcribing, reading extensively, and working with a computer.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $270,000 - $290,000 , depending on experience, education, licensure, location, and market conditions.
Compensation will be determined based on individual qualifications, and it is not typical for hires to start at the top of the range.
