Certified Electrician

Reports To: Director of Building & Grounds

Campus: All District Properties

Work Year: Twelve-month position

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. Have completed an apprenticeship sponsored by IBEW or equal.

3. Have 5 years working knowledge of Power Distribution System.

4. Have 5 years working knowledge of electrical controls.

5. Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Must have experience with commercial electric and service.

2. Understand commercial electrical systems and materials used.

3. Install new and repair existing electrical systems.

4. Assemble, install, test and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment appliances, apparatus and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.

5. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.

6. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.

7. Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.

8. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

9. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, using testing devises such as ohmmeters, voltmeters and megger, to ensure compatibility and safety of systems.

10.Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.

11.Have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.

7. Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the electrical function or repair of buildings and grounds.

8. Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate and not interrupt at inappropriate times.

9. Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

10.The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers.
