ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Summary

You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Test & Work Control Engineering Division (Code 246), Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

Help

  • You will be directly responsible for the planning, document preparing, control, execution, and certification of testing of Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical systems on naval nuclear and nonnuclear vessels undergoing work by Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
  • You will provide technical engineering solutions for testing, control of ships conditions, transfer of ships systems operation and work controls for all non-nuclear systems.
  • You will obtain and maintain the status of all in process and upcoming production work and test.
  • You will direct execution of authorized procedures as necessary to establish system conditions required for work, maintenance and testing.
  • You will provide day-to-day management, control, and direction of the non-nuclear work control and test program.
  • You will approve, monitor and provide technical oversight during test evolutions and ensure procedural compliance is followed.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required work onboard ships.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding. I am willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • This position requires that you have successfully obtained a Non-Nuclear Lead Test Engineer qualification.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying technical engineering principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to develop mechanical and electrical system isolation and tagout process by overseeing control system conditions and the transfer of ship systems operations (such as Work Authorization Form (WAF), testing, system operations, tagout, Tagout Users Manual (TUM) for ship or submarine system repair, overhaul, or maintenance projects.

Additional information

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
