Endoscopy Technician

Job Description ERP International is seeking full‑time Endoscopy Technicians in support of Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA. The salary range for this position is $32.00/hr to $46.00/hr. On‑Call Required: 1 week on approximately every 6‑8 weeks. Call Back: minimum 2 hours call back pay. Job Specific Position Duties CORE Duties Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post‑operative dressings. Ensure surgical packs are cleaned, packed for sterilization, and restocked after every procedure. Maintain a clean, safe environment for patients by actively cleaning clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in environmental maintenance. CLINICAL Functions Assist the adult and pediatric Gastroenterologist (GI) or the Surgeon in various clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), colonoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placements, push enteroscopy, anoscopies, small bowel push enteroscopy, peritoneoscopies (PEG), liver biopsies, single balloon enteroscopies, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasounds (EUS), and paracentesis. Assist with all types of dilations (Maloney dilations, wire‑guided Savary‑Gillard dilations, endoscopic balloon dilations), esophageal or colonic stent placements, endoscopic biopsies, and polypectomies. Independently set up and perform capsule endoscopy (esophageal or small bowel) and 24‑hour PH studies; set up and operate monitoring and recording devices; perform esophageal manometry. Prepare a summary of test results and forward the report to the physician. Serve as first assistant in specialized therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as ERCP with possible biliary stone extraction, stent placement, and drainage tube placements. Coordinate with Radiology to secure X‑ray and fluoroscopy rooms; perform specialized treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding. Draw medications, mix solutions, inject dyes, and set up needles, syringes, catheters, and/or balloons as required. Recognize potential problems and initiate corrective action or start basic life support (BLS) procedures and monitor vital signs. Maintain, clean, and prepare equipment; monitor equipment function and perform in‑service training as needed. Interpret physician's instructions; position patients; provide procedural education; start IV lines. Calibrate equipment and input data into automated systems. Stay abreast of technical changes in gastroenterology through literature research, continuing education, and meetings. Duties – Specific Assist physicians, nurses, and hospital corpsmen in preparing, recovering, and performing invasive gastrointestinal procedures. Prepare patients for procedures, collect pre‑operative data, provide education, start IV lines, monitor vital signs, and record documentation. Assist physician with invasive endoscopic procedures; set up, clean, disinfect, store, and troubleshoot endoscopic equipment; set up computer‑based equipment to accept procedure data and generate reports. Handle endoscopic accessories, apply therapeutic endoscopy techniques (electrocoagulation, injection hemostasis); perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Handle biopsy tissue, coordinate with Pathology to ensure timely and complete retrieval. Perform high‑level disinfection of endoscopes and other devices per manufacturer and industry guidelines. At the end of the day, restock supplies in endoscopy rooms and store supplies for future use. Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate's degree. Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician is preferred but not required. Experience: One year of experience preferred but not required. Certification: None required; Nursing Assistant or EMT preferred but not required. Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS). Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
